I dont think its unchristian Ivan, its the frustration of seeing everything handled so badly. If we genuinly want to help the most needy, then i do agree to take them from the camps, where they can be vetted, and the real needy dealt with. If you look at the ones in Europe now, they are the wealthy ones, able to pay silly money to the smugglers, watch and see how many are on I phones for example, its the old story , money gets you to the front of the queue . Mrs Merkel is beginning to regret opening her big mouth now, reported 18000 arrived yesterday alone, also two fires yesterday, one in a holding centre, and one in a building being renovated for the migrants, so we can all see where this is going. I have just sent another email to Number TEN.......

    Dear Mr Cameron,
Has everyone forgotten Gadhafi`s famous speech before the WEST had him killed.
`Is***m does not have to fight the West, we will take over by weight of Numbers`.
That is happening now in case no one has noticed.
ISIS has announced a few months ago it was sending its operatives into Europe mixed with Refugees and has over 3,000 operatives already here.
They also announced, `You have bombed our countries now we are going to bomb yours.`
Also as a start they killed several Christians in one Boat and threw their bodies into the sea,
80% of these "migrants" are all fit healthy young men of a fighting age. The foot soldiers of ISIS to await the forth coming Jihad.
As Shakespeare once said,, "What Fools these Mortals be, "
I was a hostage a few years ago in the Middle East and they told me then they would be taking over the world.
    It is now coming true.

British Prime Minister David Cameron says the U.K. will re-settle up to 20,000 Syrian refugees from camps in Turkey, Jordan and Syria over the next five years.
The figure represents a vast expansion of Britain's refugee program, a change signaled by Cameron last week.

He told Parliament Monday that Britain has a moral responsibility to act, citing shocking images in recent days. Cameron said vulnerable children and orphans will be given priority.

New arrivals will be given five-year "humanitarian protection" visas upon arrival in Britain.

    .

The prime minister said the UK had a "moral responsibility" to resettle refugees living in camps bordering Syria while also doing all it can to end the conflict in the country.

Vulnerable children and orphans would be prioritised in what would be a "national effort", Mr Cameron said.

The international aid budget will be used to help councils house people.

There is an economic and demographic backdrop to the differential policies towards asylum-seekers of Germany and the UK - to Germany's relatively open door, that compares with the UK's heavily fortified portal (which will be opened just a bit by David Cameron later today).

The two relevant points (leaving aside moral ones) are that:
    1.the UK's population is rising fast, whereas Germany's is falling fast;
2.the dependency ratio (the proportion of expensive older people in the population relative to able-bodied, tax-generating workers) is rising much quicker in Germany than in the UK.

So to put it another way, it is arguably particularly useful to Germany to have an influx of young grateful families from Syria or elsewhere, who may well be keen to toil and strive to rebuild their lives and prove to their hosts that they are not a burden - in the way that successive immigrant waves have done all over the world (including Jews like my family in London's East End).

Here are the European Commission's projections from its Ageing Report that was published earlier this year.

It projects that Germany's population will shrink from 81.3 million in 2013 to 70.8 million in 2060, whereas the UK's will rise from 64.1 million to 80.1 million.

As you can see, what is striking is that the UK is set to become the EU's most populous country, ahead of Germany and France, as a result of a relatively high fertility rate and greater projected rates of net migration.

It is probably relevant that the Commission forecasts that the proportion of the German population in 2060 represented by migrants arriving after 2013 would be 9%, compared with 14% in the UK. So Germany would be a lot less multicultural than the UK.

Here is the thing. Wherever you stand in the debate on whether immigration is a good or bad thing - and most economists would argue that immigration promotes growth - right now immigration looks much more economically useful to Germany than to the UK.

That is perhaps one of the unspoken reasons why Germany is being much more welcoming to asylum seekers from Syria and elsewhere right now.

That said, some business leaders and a couple of Tory ministers gave me what can only be described as an off-message critique of David Cameron's approach to the migrant crisis over the weekend.

They said that Angela Merkel is creaming off the most economically useful of the asylum seekers, by taking those that have shown the gumption and initiative to risk life and limb by fleeing to Europe.

Precedent suggests they will be the ones that find work fastest and impose the least economic burden on Germany or any other host country.

By contrast, David Cameron appears to be doing what many would see as the more morally admirable thing - which is to go to the Syrian camps and invite children and the most vulnerable of refugees to Britain.

But this version of living up to what the prime minister calls our moral responsibilities is undeniably more expensive in the short term than giving a welcome to the able-bodied refugees already in Hungary, Greece or Italy, and desperate to come here.

#84 Only trouble is we don't have the land mass of Germany and France to accommodate innumerable immigrants, legal or otherwise. We have a shortage of housing for people already here, whether born here or not. It's alright saying these people are coming here to work, but where is the work. Some (a lot) of these migrants openly state that they want to come to the UK as they know they will be given free housing and medical care, and our local Council, Devon and Cornwall, state that will accommodate these people, even giving them homes ahead of people who have spent years on the waiting list, sometimes I wonder if I am living in cloud cuckoo land and Alice in Wonderland is charge. Much as we are affected by some distressing photos/news reports etc, reality must take precedence of sentimentality. I have heard the argument that we British are immigrants in other countries, but as far as I am aware you must have a job to go to and have been vetted before you even leave these shores, I know I had to be when going to work abroad.

On another aspect two British Jihadists have been killed by British drones, it turns out that these two men who made videos vowing to put christians to death, were in fact two lovely boys and wouldn't hurt anyone according to their families who want a public enquiry into why they were singled out, these families are being supported by Government opposition parties, how low can you stoop to garner a vote, in my eyes they gave up being British when they went to fight for ISIS whose sole aim is to destroy christianity. Also suggest that they watch the videos.

Politicians will tell us this is a global problem, if so then all global nations should help. It should not be left to just a few to do the hard lifting. How many refugees will Russia, China, UAE, South Africa, Brazil and some of the very wealthy nations take? But taking them in from Syria is not the answer. It only allows ISIS more room to move and to be able to push forward. The Wes, could if it wished, move an army in and remove the threat, but ISIS gets its arms from Russia so a bigger global conflict could occur.

    Hi HD John
ISIS got its arms from America and Britain,
ASSAD who is fighting ISIS gets its arms from Russia, that is why America who does not like Russia for some obscure reason and Obama`s poodle Cameron , gave weapons. Humvees ,Rockets and all kinds of ammunition to fight ASSAD who is backed by Russia,
If America and Britain had joined Russia backing ASSAD the war would have been over in weeks and not over Four years and there would not have been the chaos that is spreading across the Middle East and Europe now.
Also if Obama of America and his Poodle Cameron had not bombed and shelled Libya and got Gadhafi killed then the Chaos and ISIS spread in Libya would not have happened.
America and Britain started the whole chaos in the Middle East by interfering in Arab countries, starting with Iraq, under the guise of bringing Democracy to these nations who were ruled by Dictators,
You cannot have Democracy, western style in the Mid East, too many tribes warring against each other, then the Shiah and the Sunny at each others throats all the time. It does not work, has never worked and will never work, But Politicians are Stupid people and we elect them,
Saddam in Iraq held the nation together and was also a good balance in keeping Iran in check, Iran being Shiah and Iraq being Sunny.
Assad kept Syria together, no problems there. .Gadhafi also kept Libya, with its 15 different Tribes, together and no problems there. now Civil War where there was none before.
BUT America interfering with the help of our British Politicians have just caused total chaos across the whole Middle East and Now in Europe.
    When will they ever learn.
    Es Salaam.

Brian you are correct, but if countries such as Russia, China, France and UK, the worlds leading ammunition makers, are to continue making then there has to be somewhere to use them. Conflitc in that part of the word keeps then away from the west.
