Interpreter Service NHS.
I would realy like to know the cost to the NHS of the Interpreter Service throughout the country. On a number of occasions I have seen Chinese patients in the hospital in Liverpool and it is them that always seem to have the use of an interpreter, these older Chinese must have children and grandchildren, and they can speak and understand English good enough behind the chippy counter. It was a long day in the hospital clinic yesterday just like back in the old days 3 hours after you appointment time to see the doctor.Any way there were 3 Chinese sitting by me a man and 2 women,we seen our doctors and we met up again in the blood room for more blood testsJust the man and a girl, the girl said to me in perfect English ,we meet up again, and went on to ask how long I had waited and then said that lady that was with us is an interpreter and she had to go on another job,it was the way in which she said she had to go on another job,I think she was born in this country.
Just had a court case last week in Liverpool 4 Vietnamese up before the judge for growing and cultivating a £10.million cannabis farm the case could not proceed because a Vietnamese interpreter could not be found so it would be against their Human Rights, they are illegals anyway.Imagine a British person in a foreign court the case would just proceed whether you undertood what was going on or not.
Regards.
Jim.B.
PS.I think the last count was it cost the NHS £55 Million p.a.

Re: Interpreter Service NHS.
When I had an accident in Spain (part of the EEC!) there was a notice in10 languages (including English) which stated 'We do not speak your language, if you do not speak Spanish and you want treatment, please bring your own interpreter. If one EEC country can get away with this why can't we

Re: Interpreter Service NHS.
When I was in the waiting room at Wythenshawe Hospital Manchester waiting for two hours, for my turn for the cancer operation. it was full of migrants, and I saw four different interpreters taking various languages to patients and escorting them to see Consultants.
This is going on everyday, must cost the NHS a fortune. These people have never paid into the system. they do not belong here.
If they chose to come here they must pass an English test at least before any kind of treatment or benefit is give,
If they are illegal, deport them immediately.
If I do anything illegal the full weight of the Law will be on top of me, why am I discriminated against and illegals are not prosecuted.???
I was queing up in the hospital Pharmacy, a young English lady in front of me got her prescription and they charged her £32 or £33 for four items. the man behind went to the counter, The woman behind said , `Are you an asylum seeker?` he looked at his mate and he said `Yes he is `.
and then she gave him a Huge Bag of Medicines, `No Charge`,
My mate Fred`s wife was working in a Chemist shop, The Moo, slims, come in with prescriptions, with enough medication on to treat a whole village. she said they go to the Post Office next door with a big box of medication, , owned by moo, slims, and then it is sent off to Pa kist an. That is milking the NHS dry by Millions of pounds, we are keeping the sub continent in frèe medication. by moo, slim, doctors giving out free prescriptions to their own people..
If anyone complains they are racist. That keeps the complaints down.

Re: Interpreter Service NHS.
This story is just Yorkshire but it gives you an insight as to what is going on Nationally. It says "sometimes people speak good enough English to live their lives but not good enough to deal with doctors and diagnoses or things they don't quite understand".Well I think that I fit into that category I too find it hard to grasp what the doctor means at times .so maybe I need an interpreter. It says a Slovac girl gets as many as seven jobs a day,I never thought they would need a Polish interpreter servive.

###bang on there brian ....its a bloody shambles ......they send medicines to the people who are persecuting our selves ......we are fair game anywhere in the world now ......not only ourselves but our children also ........there must be some new laws to stop these people taking advantage of what this nation has worked for generations to attain ......surly it would not be hard to stoip them coming in families of nine and ten who cant speak english have no jobs and treat our cities like middens .......the country of palms as one member put it ......we are being eaten as a nation by a cancerous underclass of hangers on whose main occupation after begging is theft......i was recently in france and the same problem was in full force there beggers every ware.......why cannot our governments see the problem that is building for our grandchildren to cope with.......but the problem is not going to be solved till someone stands up and says what these people are doing is tantamount to coming into our houses and taking what we have worked for .......where is the man with balls enough to say enough is enough........i see terrible strife in the country and mass battles if we do not solve the problem now..........oh for a maggie or a winston.......a sad cappy

Re: Interpreter Service NHS.
It always amazes me, that the human rights are quoted when a translator is not provided. In other European countries covered by the same act YOU ARE EXPECTED to fund the cost of a translator, not the state. So why should the UK be any different.

Re: Interpreter Service NHS.
The NHS spent £17,000,000 SEVENTEEN MILLION POUNDS on Interptreters last year.
.........................
."The country has to decide which direction it's going in," she said. "Is it going to spend many, many years to come, translating and interpreting? Or the alternative is that we invest in our common language."
Some trusts spent more than £300,000 on interpreters in the last financial year.
Most high spenders cover cities with large immigrant populations, including Mid Yorkshire Hospitals, which spent £222,000, Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals, which spent £284,000, North Middlesex University Hospitals which spent £338,000 and Liverpool Women’s Foundation Trust, which spent £186,000....£470,000 for Liverpool in total.
Some trusts had made significant cuts on the previous year, particularly East Kent Hospitals and Kettering General Hospital, which both saved £50,000.
Some employ their own interpreters whilst others use the services of local translation agencies.
A spokesman for the Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust, which spends around £100,000 annually, said the cost of face to face interpreters was liable to fluctuate because it was reactive.

I can believe that Jim
This was the Telegraph on google,
just tried to google again.
from the BMJ............................
David Jones, general practitioner

david.jones9@nhs.net
Millions of pounds are spent on NHS translation services each year. David Jones believes that current service provision is patchy and more investment is needed, whereas Kate Adams argues that doctors should encourage patients to learn English to avoid future public health problems
When the BBC reported the high cost of interpreting services, the conservative estimate was £55 million (€82m; $107m).1 My initial response, as a general practitioner using interpreting services every day, was that this seemed a fairly small sum given the scale and diversity of non-English speakers who are entitled to use the NHS and other public services. I was also troubled by the way the subject was reported, with widespread expressions of concern about waste and the secretary of state for communities and local government asking for a review of language services across government. The message to the public was of a government setting out to find ways of reducing spending in this area. As the complex issues of identity and integration have become of central political concern in the United Kingdom, the government's attitude has shifted.
Full citizenship already requires a test of competence in English. Now we are hearing that non-English speakers have a responsibility to learn English in order to contribute to the process of integration and share in British identity and public life and even to hold on to unemployment benefit.2 The darker side of this idea is …

Re: Interpreter Service NHS.
Jack had a drastic answer the the ****** problem.
At least it worked for 50 years!A True story about General "Black Jack" Pershing.Born September 13th, 1860 near Laclede, Mississippi
Died July 15th, 1948 in Washington, D.C.
1891 Professor of Military Science and Tactics University of Nebraska
1898 Serves in the Spanish-American War
1901 Awarded rank of Captain
1906 Promoted to rank of Brigadier General
1909 Military Governor of Moro Province, Philippines
1916 Made Major General
1919 Promoted to General of the Armies
1921 Appointed Chief of Staff
1924 Retires from active duty
Education: 4 Years-West Point
One important thing to remember is that ******s detest pork because they believe pigs are filthy animals. Some of them simply refuse to eat it, while others won't even touch pigs at all, nor any of their by-products. To them, eating or touching a pig, its meat, its blood, etc., is to be instantly barred from paradise and doomed to hell.
Just before World War I, there were a number of terrorist attacks against the United States and it's interests by, you guessed it, ****** extremists.
So General Pershing captured 50 of the terrorists and had them tied to posts execution style. He then had his men bring in two pigs and slaughter them in front of the, now horrified, terrorists.
The soldiers then soaked their bullets in pigs blood, and proceeded to execute 49 of the terrorists by firing squad.
The soldiers then dug a big hole, dumped in the terrorist's bodies and covered them in pig blood, entrails, etc.
They let the 50th man go. And for about the next 42 years, there was not a single attack by a ****** fanatic anywhere in the world.
