    HI All.
Now you can't deny that Sir Tom Yates didn't deserve his medal. Who was Tom Yates I hear you all ask.
    Cheers Des

#13... Fred can now walk the straight white Line. Hope you are the same this morning. Day 1 of the year that its all going to happen maybe, Would be nice to think it was Peace on Earth. From the Description book of the Investitures "The Grand Order of the British Empire" is divided into different ranks etc. with a certain number of holders of same stipulated. This is Known as the Order. It is given to various types of people and which the Merchant Navy and the Special Constabulary are mentioned in particular. A civilian list is drawn up by the Prime Minister and a Military List by the Secretary of State. The British Empire Medal is associated with the Order and for those who already hold the medal, several bars may be attached. Since December 1957 medals awarded for acts of gallantry, as opposed to meritorious service, have been distinguished by the addition of an emblem composed of two silver oak leaves. Although I can walk straight have trouble seeing straight so please excuse any spelling mistakes. Hope your eyesight is better than mine at the moment. Cheers and all the breast John S.

#20...The young lady Sheridan Smith, how do you know she was receiving an award was it published. They as far as I know as regards the New Years Honours put out about November but is not handed to the media until New Years Eve, then published in the Times or the Telegraph. The recipient is honour bound not to inform the press and they the media are also honour bound not to divulge until permission granted, or are we once again being told by the press it is their freedom to do so. The recipients as said are told and have to reply by return of post or quickest if they accept or not, and are then told they will hear no further until published after the Queen accepts. Is this another of the UKs customs being lost. Cheers JS

#25,,, So much about honour among thieves then. She is part also of the Media. Would have laughed like billy o if she had not been accepted then and The Queen had not sanctioned. Last paragraph in the letter would read "If you agree that your name should go forward and The Queen accepts the Prime Ministers recommendation , the announcement will be made in the New Years Honours List. You will receive no further communication before the list is published". They take an awful lot for granted these show people, which is all they are really and should go along to Crufts with the rest of the livestock. The top of the letter would have had IN CONFIDENCE at the top. Cheers John S

Hi John, I think I must be getting old, watched the celebrations on telly, stroked the dog, had a
couple of mugs of tea, with tea you don't get that sinking feeling when you close your eyes.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!F.

Esther Rantzen oly got a top bbc tvshow because the former host made an advert for Stork margarine, that was not allowed back then! her next claim to fame was pinching someone elses Husband, and then slagging her off in a book. She allegedly knew about a well known paedo, but despite being the leading light of Childline, kept shtum about him! so about right for the honours list then!
