African-Americans and the police.
The latest on the most recent shooting of a young African-American male by a police officer in Berkley, Missouri.
An 18 year old black male in Berkley, Missouri was shot by a police officer and killed.
The Mayor of Berkley said that surveillance footage appeared to show Mr. Martin pulling a gun on the unidentified 34 year old police officer who questioned him and another male about a theft at a convenience store. The Mayor added that you couldn't even compare this to Ferguson or the Garner case in New York—a reference to the chokehold death of Eric Garner whose death was caused by a white police officer. The Mayor of Berkley is an African-American.
Riots erupted for two nights in Berkley, St. Louis, but were contained by the police to a downtown area.
Martin's mother said that Antonio was like any other kid who had dreams and hopes. We loved being around him. He'd push a smile out of you.
Mr. Martin had a criminal record that included three assault charges, plus charges for armed robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
The source of the following statistics:
The U.S. Government Census Bureau
The FBI Uniform Crime Report
The FBI Supplemental Homicide Report
The Economist
Wikepedia Race and Crime in the U.S.A.
African- Americans [A-A] equal 13.4 of the U.S. population.
33% of adult A-A males will spend time in prison.
2009 figures show 3,161 A-A- males per 100,000 V.S. 487 white males per 100,000 were jailed. The incarceration rate for blacks is six times greater than whites.
Auto accidental death is the highest cause of death for young white American males.
Gun homicides is the greatest cause of death for young A-A males.
Young A-A males are nine times more likely to commit murder than young white males.
93% of young A-A males murdered are killed by other blacks. Usually known by the victim.
Of 6,309 young black homicide victims in 2009 5,452 (86%) were male, and 854 (14%) female.
The homicide rate for young black males was 31.6 per 100,000, the young white male homicide rate was 3.85 per 100,000. The overall rate for all ethnic groups of young American males was 7.13.. Young black females was 4.54 per 100,000, white young females was 1.54 per 100,000.
The greatest cause of death for A-A youths is not "Suicide by police" it is by "Blacks on Blacks."

Re: African-Americans and the police.
Rodders, just couple of points.
Two WHITE police were shot by a non white man and there were no riots...............why not?
If you carry a firearm, pull it out and point it at a police man what is he supposed to do, say have a nice day now!
We had a case here in Sydney last week, an Aboriginal was found hanging from a lampost, shot twice and stabbed in the back. Plice said it was the worst odf Aboriginal suicide they had seen.

Happy daze John in Oz.

if you carry a firearm and pull it out on a police man what do you expect he is not going to back down? to many guns on the streets of all countries so it will just go on ..jp

Re: African-Americans and the police.
That's why I never liked firearms on ships, unless of course going into pirate waters. If I had the necessity to point a firearm at someone the chances are very high I would pull the trigger, and probably live to regret it. To menace someone with a firearm one should expect retaliation of a similar kind. If a police officer has to pull his weapon out of its holster he has to be prepared to use it, it is not there for decoration. JS

Re: African-Americans and the police.
It sounds as tho` America is at war with itself, no need to go overseas to have a war ,
The casualty rate is higher than in Afghanistan. Probably safer there too.
