Re: Shangri-La
For me
The scenery on the passage down from Prince Rupert to Nanaimo through the Straits at the top end of Vancouver Island with loads of Killer Whales breaching, the Fjords of Norway, Ice bound in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the beaches of St. Croix and strangely enough the Manchester Ship Canal with its history of industrial revolution and the fact that many of the original equipment is still in place, such as the water hydraulics operating the swing bridges and things like the Anderton Canal lift still operating. Marvels of engineering that have stood the test of time. Panama and Suez Canal, there are numerous others but amongst them all was the thrill of meeting and learning something of the nature and culture of the countries and the people of those countries visited, even if in some of them , due to an over indulgence in the local culture, you ended up having a gun shoved in your back and thrown in jail for the night or been beaten over the head with a night stick wielded by the local police.

Re: Shangri-La
I just love the Pacific Islands, from Honolulu down to the Tahitian group, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Moorea, Raiatai, Rangiroa, Rarotonga, etc, . That is why I go there every year, pure Paradise. All the people are so friendly and generous, always singing and dancing. I have a lot of friends in those islands and they always make a big fuss of us when we go. Off there again in February.
Cheers

#15, My dear cappy, not quite the horizon I was anticipating but hey ho
Thank you for all your responses you have certainly without doubt embraced Mark Twain's quote:
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
