Health
I think it was five or six months ago that I gave up smoking, I didn't keep a check of the date as I was trying to put all thoughts of cigarettes out of my mind.
About ten years ago I gave up drinking alcohol after developing a hiatus hernia, this a tear that allows acid back into the stomach. I was paying a lot of money in the pub only to make myself violently sick.
Great you may think, fit, healthy, enjoying life. If only this was true, all I have to do now is open the fridge door and another two or three pounds is added to my belly. I am walking around like a Grenadier Guardsman, belly in chest out. My belt is making grooves in my waist and I have to wear my shirt outside my trousers. At the moment I am refusing to buy larger sizes as this would be admitting defeat.
Life has a way of continually throwing up problems, you think you have it beat then it whacks you across the head with a lead pipe.

Re: Health
Louis I have a hiatus hernia and the beer does'nt affect me in fact I'l be out tomorrow and meet up with Gilly at the P&W and have about 4 pints then 2 more at my own end.I don't overdo it on the beer now usually about 6 pints max. It's the food that affects my h.h things like roast lamb and fried fish but as long as I remember to take these Ranitidine tablets that I have been prescribed it keeps it under control,if I don't take them no chance of a nights sleep.I'd be lost if I couldn't go out a couple of times a week to meet up with good company for the craic.
Regards.

Re: Health
I know about these things.I gave up smoking about 10 yrs ago and put on about 2stone.Current weight at 106kilos.
My wife keeps me on a strict diet and as I am unable to exercise (I have CODP) I have to restrict my intake to avoid weight increase.
At one time I thought that I was shrinking as my trousers were dragging on the ground at my heels and as I had worn the same size M and S trousers for many years I assumes I was losing height. My belt was slipping below my belly.Bought a pair braces .this helps.

Re: Health
Lou, the problem with the trosers may be the waist band . I have found thta keeping such garmenst in the wardrobe over winter and in the dark has some terribel effect on them and they shrink.
Yes Jim I too have one of them but keep it under controlw with a tablet every other day. Too much spicy food can set ot off though. Drinking does help to stop it as the fluid dilutes the stomach acid which assists in reducing reflux. That is my syory and I am sticking to it.

john like me you probably find that bath towels have shrunk beyond recognition. There was a time that I could wrap a bath towel around myself with ease but these days with the puny towels they sell a towel barely fits round my waste.Somebody should do something about it

The towels like so many of the clothes made today come from China. Have you seen the size of the people there? Bloody midgets compared with the west!
