Re: Another Malaysian Tragedy
This is the third commercial aircraft that I can recall brought down by missiles. There was the one brought down off Korea, a one brought down during one of the Gulf Wars by an US cruiser, and now this one. There may have been others that I dont know of. However personally I would of thought that the commercial airflights in the case of well known war zones would redirect their passenger services well clear of. Or is this just another similar case as Capt. Phillips weighing up the costs of such deviations. The war of words will continue for some time yet. I would also imagine that the US who is more or less to have satellite visuals of the occurrence or if not, before and after film. Will know the truth, how far they will go to produce the truth to the general public remains to be seen, or it may be partial truth tinged with their own desires. Today truth is hard to find, people listen to the media and 9 times out of 10 it is that persons thoughts, an unbiased report is hard to come by these days. I hope the media this time give the relatives and loved ones of those lost, a bit of respite and not act like the usual crowd of baying jackals. John S

Re: Another Malaysian Tragedy
For me this has become personal. Two of the dead are from our town of Sunbury, he was the director of one of the towns real estate agencies. Only last week he was shwoing clients around a house just over the road from me, and my brother has dealt with him on a number of properties he has bought and sold.
The aircraft was flying over declared safe airspace so there was no danger of any such event occuring.
But what do these people who shot it down want? They cllaim to be separatists who want their own land. But what do they realy want, to live in their hovels strugling to make a living in a country completely devoid of any interaction with other countries?
This is the 5th such event where a comercial aircraft has been shot down in such a manner. According to the telephone conversation between two of the perpatrators this was no accident. This my friends is the world in which we now liove, how will it be for your grand children?

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Another Malaysian Tragedy

Re: Another Malaysian Tragedy
As JP and other say, another terrible tragedy.
There has been an immediate change in the air corridor for that area moving it away from the danger zone but even before this tragedy there was a recommendation to all civil aviation flights to steer away from the area either by going further north or south, which many airlines had been following.
The extra fuel used in deviation from the "normal" flight path was apparently quite substantial so without trying to stain Malaysian Airlines in any way, as they are one of the cheaper long haul airlines, perhaps cost was involved in not telling their pilots to keep away from that particular area. Though having said that who could imagine that a missile would be fired at a commercial airline flying at some 30,000 feet.

Re: Another Malaysian Tragedy
#5... Any religious fanatic and terrorist would have no hesitation of shooting down an airliner and are still trying to do so, for whatever misguided reasons they have. We only have to look at recent History for proof of this, and the restrictions imposed on the travelling public to cut back on these threats. Thats why all such weapons and modern technology should be kept away from them. Its only one huge pity that a lot of the worlds economy for certain countries is based on the manufacture of armaments. From the old Blacksmith forging swords and battleaxes, the world has gone backwards as regards weaponry designed to kill by the thousands if necessary. That is what we call civilization, I would give it another name, the excuse in a lot of cases is religion of all things. What a cess pit this world is turning in to. No need for climate change, humanity itself will bring the world to an end. JS

Re: Another Malaysian Tragedy
Just been watching TV News on this disaster,
The Blame Game has started.
The Western TVs, BBC, SKY and Al Jazeera, say the Ukrainian Seperatists are to blame, and Russia is to blame,
Russian TV, RT News, says it is the Western backed Ukrainian Regime that is to blame.
The Black Box Recorder is being sent to Moscow. and another Black Box recorder has been found by the Seperatists.
So If the Black Boxes are not tampered with, we may have some answers.
.
This conflict was bound to cause some disaster somewhere. If the Ukraine gave independence to the Eastern Ukraine who do not want to belong to Ukraine, why not just let them have it, No problems, no one killed and everyone happy.
The Ukraine have been shelling civilian areas and killing women and children. Hundreds killed so far,
BUT the european union with the lead taken by Germany, and Usa have been encouraging Ukraine to join up to Europe. So then a missile system could be built right alongside the Russian border, That is certainly what Russian does not want.
So a lot of countries could be blamed for starting the spark that then increases into a huge fire. as it is doing now.
.
Obama and Cameron have been placing Sanctions on Russia, and losing British jobs in the UK as we do a lt of trade with Russia, so the British Worker suffers with job losses.
So While We have been poncing about watching football, President Putin has been in Cuba, done a big trade agreement with them, Been to Brazil and done a Big Trade agreement with them and in Argentina and done a Big Trade agreement with them. and on top of that Putin got a massive Trade agreement in China.
So much for Sanctions by our government.
Russia is laughing at our sanctions. and more British workers out of work.
So this is the whole background to yesterdays disaster.
Hope that explains it. The BBC will not.
Cheers
Brian.
.
Just off to sunny Fleetwood for the weekend to unwind..

Re: Another Malaysian Tragedy
The only winners at the moment are the manufacturers of arms. Whatever a missile system is worth they will have to supply another one now. All money in the bank. The Aircraft makers will also come out of receivership on being giving new replacement orders, and the world continues merrily on its way, until the next disaster. The poor and destitute of the world can disappear into the background for a few months while the present drama holds centre stage. I was watching a TV documentary last night re about two US brothers who are supposed to be the richest in the world. They keep a low background, but however claimed that they supply all the money for the presidential US elections. They are the ones who decides in fact who is going to be President. Frightening stuff if true. Accordingly according to show Obama is on the way out, as hasnt come up to expectations. So if a betting man put your money on a Republican President next. Hope its not one of these old war horses, who thinks America is impregnable. JS

Re: Another Malaysian Tragedy
This is the second major incident involving Malaysian Airlines, is this more than a coincidence?
Many other airline companies were following the same flightpath.
The U.S. has a spy satellite over Ukraine watching events on the ground, they must know more than what they are willing to reveal.

Re: Another Malaysian Tragedy
10 britains, including two from NEWCASTLE going out to watch Newcastle United play pre-season friendlies in NZ
Lots of Dutch citizen's, many of them young going on holiday/honeymoon
but worst of all
80 children.
Aircraft was flying in an recommended flight path followed by up to 15 other Eastern airlines as well as many other European airlines.
That flight path has now been closed.
Who to blame? hopefully time will tell but Putin denying any Russian involvement altogether and putting the blame on Ukraine.
