Thankfully got a job and spare levels - degree, but when studying found loads of work and was earning more then than when I went full time, with the tax breaks now, many that work hard, seek lesser appointments and are better off. K.

NZ has the right idea, in the fruit picking areas, no that is not the same as the gay part of Sydney, you have a choice if you are on the dole. Go pick fruit or no more money for the season. Our gov here in Oz is attempting to clamp down on some of the bludgers who think gov hand outs area right. But to get such a thing through the parliament may be a problem as Labor and the Greens control the upper house and strongly believe in hand outs to those they lovingly call 'disadvantaged'. Well in my opinion many pensioners are disadvantegd but get little assistance from gov.

Its amazing how certain elements of the press can portray a positive as a negative.
Over 2,000 people a day managed to gain employment in the last quarter.

The Royal Mail, recently sold off to speculators, is now sacking 1500 people.

Most of the "jobs"the 2000 people a day have found are for 20hours a week or less and most on zero hour contracts. The government will have you believe that people are being employed but they do not tell you the big picture.,they are not real jobs in the true sense of the word.

Not sure about UK but here in Oz as a shop closes another on eopens in its place, problem is most of the new ones are eithert nail shops, hairdressers, cafes, or tatoo parlours. Now the cafe I can use, the rest well there are alot of bald headed tatooed ladies with fingernails a mile long walking around these days.

Same here John, are you copying us, or are we copying you, who knows, the end result is the same, you forgot charity shops which are sprouting up all over the place, no real objection, but they are starting to sell 'new goods' as well as used, which is not fair on other struggling shops selling the same products who pay business rates on their properties, where-as charity shops are exempt
