Hunt begins to find black boxes for doomed Flight MH370:

All day, all news channels have reported about the American bit of kit to be used. Seems to be todays news agency buzz word.

Though everything used in the military is a bit of kit, have not heard the term used so widely until today on Civvy Street.

Seem to recall towing something similar in size in the North Sea from a supply boat, only was a torpedo shape, think it was subsea trying out some new piece of equpment at the time. That long ago cant remember all the facts was an isolated experiment of some sort related to the oil industry, most of the technology probably came from the oil industry in any case. I would have personally thought they would be thinking of a seismic search to get a much bigger coverage, especially when the pinger loses all power. A lot of the technology that comes out will probably be very alien to the average person ashore. Years ago I never thought underwater telephones were so effective until was involved in their use. When working for the MOD in the early 80"s the minehunters were very effective in finding listening devices planted on the sea bed by Russian Trawlers on the Western approaches to the Clyde, this was 34 years ago, so assume is even much further advanced today. Given time if it is there they will find it. Cheers John S.

I'LL bet any ships and there will have been quite a few that have been within a thousand miles of the suspected area, some will be biting their fingernails and hoping any rubbish dumped at sea cant be traced back to them. Its no use saying such and such a rule forbids it, we all know these rules are only obeyed by the ones with consciences. No matter how many maritime rules re the clean seas act is not 100 per cent obeyed. Cheers JS
