Purchased my last car brand new and never will purchase a brand new car again. Reason being that once you start it up you can hear the dollars/pounds evaporating along with the petrol. As has been stated before? When you purchase a new car sit in it and take a good smell of that new car smell as it has just cost you few thousand to smell it. No matter if it is a new car or used car when going to a sales yard I work on the understanding that if you drive one away then you have been ripped of. Had an old 1989 ford 4x4 ute thqt looked like it had been through a war but mechanically it was great but not good enough to survive a woman driver the sons ex wrote it of and we still miss that old dilapidated ute more than the car we drive around in today. As for the modern day cars they just seem so mundane and boring how anyone can compare one with the other when the only difference they have is the name on the boot. Yeh sure they are a lot safer but no excitement in driving them from A to B. Bet that this generation will not have the same sort of stories that we have about our first cars.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

Sometimes main car dealers will purchase and register a car in their own name, in order to make the bonus from the manfacturer.
These cars have delivery mileage only, and are offered at hug discounts.
Because they have been registered (although not driven) they are classed as second hand cars.
    Worth looking out for one.

John P, the car we currently have is on Motability and is the third one that we have had under that scheme. My partner who is eligible for the scheme has to have an automatic as her license only covers her for automatic transmission, the reason being that she lived in the United States for 30 years, and that is the only type of car they sell. If you want a shift stick (their phrase, not mine) then you have order one and pay extra. The last car we got was a Vauxhall Insignia automatic, and although we had to pay a deposit have been really happy with the car. We are due to get a new car in July so have started to look around. When the time comes for you to change your car, Motability will send you a brochure listing all the manufacturers and cars with all relavent information. All in all I think it really is a good scheme. Apart from the US Military, Motability have the largest fleet of cars on the planet.
    Regards
    John

We have one of those car supermarkets here in Melbourne, always advertising on radio. It has about a dozen dealers in the one stand which covers over two acres. Mate of mine went to look for anew secondhand car there, ran out of it. As soon as he was in the gate the salesmen, thousands he reckons, came from no where looking he said more like vampires after blood.

Well I have to admit I have just bought my first " old man's car ", a Toyota Yaris. Found it in a garage five minutes from where I live.
I needed a car with high seating as my wife was struggling to get in and out of the Mini Cooper because of arthritis in her knee.
I will miss the Mini, good fun to drive, fast and economical. I do not drive long distances any more so don't need a large engine car.
A few weeks ago I picked up my grandson from school, he came out with his coat over his head and said, " you are an embarrassment to me, no other grandads drive Mini's ".
So reluctantly I am now about to join the other pensioners in the slow lane.
