    Default Cars

Yesterday I drove two hours to a large car supermarket in Sheffield, a complete rip off.
Nearly all the cars for sale were high millage vehicles bought from auctions. They would not budge from the windscreen price and offered peanuts for a trade in.
There must be a training school for liars where politicians and car salesmen graduate from. I have never drove away from a car showroom smiling and thinking, what a great deal I got there.

I buy ex demonstrators off of the dealership , and when it comes to the overall deal , not just the trade in price , I feel they are a good as any of the traders out there

Have always gone to main dealers, usually for ex demo's, because these have all the extras they try to sell you anyway. Haggle as much as I can, because I always know what my limit to exchange is, but you have to shop around even for the same marque. On my last but one car I saved £3000 by driving 220 miles and bought the very same car (Registration/chassis number) that my local dealer was trying to sell me for that extra £3000, guess which garage got my business when it was time to trade in. My local dealer didn't have the sense to cover up the number plate as he tried to sell me the car on an email, when I was driving up north and passing Sheffield said to my wife lets see what they have got, as could see the marque sign from the motorway. Walked into the showroom and saw the car my local dealer had offered carrying a much lower sticker price, with a bit more haggling got it down further, signed the papers there and then, they delivered the car I'd just purchase up north two days later on a transporter and collected my car. Drove the 450 miles home with a grin on my face.

#4 Ivan, Whenever we want to purchase an expensive item and see a favourable price nearby we tell the nearby seller, if he matches it he has the deal. Has worked on most things except houses

#5 John, My Father got his insurance and road tax too, only paid if he wanted something more upmarket or an automatic instead.

There is a car supermarket with a branch in Burnley and Glasgow I can recommend.
They deal in new cars and also second hand.
I have had two cars from them and got really good deals, for example a brand new X-Trail for £14500 fitted with extras (reversing sensors).
Traded in the previous car I had brought from them, all done over the phone and internet. Turn up on the day, couple of hours paperwork and off you go. As they are new you will still get the manufacturers warranty though main dealers hate you when you take into them for servicing so I always took them to a very reputable local garage that used original parts when servicing so the warranty was maintained.
Biggest fault I could find was that the cars had next to no fuel in them and the only garage in the locality had the most expensive fuel prices ever. On both occasions the place was extremely busy. The cars may be imports so you will not be the first owner but hey look at the savings. The X-Trail was imported from Eire and the previous one was from Cyprus. Neither of them gave me any trouble and I saved a mint.

#8 John, When we lived in Ireland [south] cars were double UK price, road tax depended on size of engine and vat was 33%. Brought tears to a glass eye All changed now I believe.
