Today has not been a good one for me, in fact its been s***, my little friend with the waggly tail has had to be put to sleep, 13 and a half years for a dear dog, the house now seems empty, so now i am going to sit down and smear into a bottle of wine, maybe two. Last time with animals, its too painful when they go,, KT

Keith I know exactly how you feel, my little cat had to go 2 months ago, she was 22 years old. As you say no more for me either.

keith my last dog sox out of all the dogs I had he was the best and I have always had a dog the morning he passed I knew the exact time and I was working miles away from home something inside told me I would never see him again it was like losing my right arm its been 6 years since he passed and although I have a good dog now I still think of sox every day his ashes are in our front room and they will go in with me when my time comes? very sorry mate I know what you are going through but go and get another one and give it a good home they are the best mate you will ever have? so sorry mate.jp

Thanks for those thoughts guys, you obviously know how i feel. My son whose dog it really was, failed marriage so lived with us virtually all her life, asked the vet about cremation , the receptionist asked if we would want just her ashes alone, or a mixture of other dogs, i was bloody astounded. so they obviously do a job lot!!.. Needless to say she is now in my garden in a sunny spot. Regards KT

Hi Shipmates,Only time will heal the empty space a pet fills, sorry for your loss, Pepe the poddle and the Bookie I had a shop a few year ago next door was an antique shop , the owner /my landlord was a on the rails bookmaker/money lender + other things you would not want to mess with him!!! Well the only soft spot in his whole live was for "pepe a small white poddle he took it to the vet every week for an injection to keep "pepe alive cost £50,00 a time a lot of money then ,my rent for shop was £40.00 a week , his family and wife would not get a penny out of him, The sad day came when the injection did not work he asked me to look after pepe he took off his very expensive sheepskin coat to wrap up his pepe , I went into his car a top of the range Land rover in the front seat untill he passed. { he was heart broken}he gave me £100 for my trouble and We/he drunk a bottle of scotch . A harder man I yet to meet.

its refreshing to hear we are in the company of real men who can greave without worrying whether it indicates unmanlyiness.
I have 3 cats and a dog.All rescued and they mean very much to me although they cost me a fortune.
My dog suffers from epilepsy and has to have 3 tablets a day.One of my cats came to us with a broken tail and has had an op for gall stones.cost 3000euro plus a special diet for life and monthly visits for spells in hospital also had most of her teeth out through gingervitis(costly op) plus an ingrowing claw(expensive op) so one day I will be able to afford to have my teeth done.
Couldn't live without any of them.They cost me almost as much as the wife

Keith, so very sorry to hear the news. I also know exactly how you feel. Lost our little Yorkie 4 years ago, had to take her to the vet myself and ask him to do the necessary, she was blind and also suffering from balance problems, better to give her the peace she deserved. Broke my heart it really did, she had been with us for sixteen years through thick and thin and kept the misses and me sane. I still miss her like hell but I can think of her now with happiness and very fond memories. Will never have another pet, as you say its too painful when they go, plus one will probably outlive me now.

I have a video of sox on my phone the phone is battered and every few months I get the offer of one of these blackbury things always refuse. the on off has to be done with a knife as the button is cracked but knowing the video of our last walk on the beach 3 days before he past is a great comfort although I never watch it I cant but just to know I have something of him left gives me great comfort I started oil painting a month before he passed and he used to sit by me all the time he was never more than 6ft away from me I always sign the paintings sox so if any come across one you know were it came from I give them to charities dogs lifeboat any that can raise money? john albert evans looked at a few in Liverpool meet up. funny thing about us most of us have seen people die on the job but when your pet dies that's when you can shed a tear.jp
