Re: Horse Meat.
I had a Bear Steak once in Banff, Alberta, in a restaurant that specialised in Bear Meat, in 1990. Not impressed with it, it was a little grizzily.

Re: Horse Meat.
Brian, JC you would prefer "long Pig"to horse? Guess you know that is 'us' mate? I know you are a big boy but your not for me sir even the fillet or rump (: nor would a tenderloin boy-girl be something I could partake in, though have understood when it has been done, eating human flesh I mean. I tasted horse for the first time this year when all the horse meat scandal was on. We went to a recommended horse meat restaurant here & we had fillet, the first time med rare & med well. Loved it it was delicious, light akin Kangaroo but a more beef colour. We then went back the next week & had their stew which also was terrific. Since then we have eaten several times even at a BBQ so endorse the eating there of.
Had bear too in Calgary, it was stringy & tough with like you say a heavy taste. Venison cooked in Europe is delicious also had it a few times in US did not like it, same same in Aus.
