Re: Philippine Typhoon Extremely serious
Received this reply Today!
Dear Doc Vernon
Thank you for your email.
I am sorry that we are communicating under these circumstances. I appreciate that you are very much worried for your friend due to the devastation wreaked by Typhoon Yolanda in several places in the Philippines.
We will include his name in the list of individuals we will look out for with the help of other embassies and organisations. In the meantime, please continue to try and get messages to Tony via his mobile, e-mail, social media like Facebook and Twitter. It may well be that as communications improve that you are able to contact him.
Was he travelling alone? If he was with someone, could you tell us who it is and do you have any contact details for him/her?
Does he have any friends here in the Philippines? Do you have their names and contact details for them as well?
What places in the Philippines did he go to? Any specific addresses?
What was the purpose of his travel?
Does he have special medical needs?
I would be grateful to your reply to the above.
We will likewise let you know if we hear of anything.
Sincerely yours
My reply

Re: Philippine Typhoon Extremely serious
Hi Shipmates,
Quite honestly, the more I search through the internet re the present situation in Cebu City the more optimistic I feel about the welfare of Tony and Annie, at least as far as Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) is concerned. Certainly, there is evidence that the main concern for people on Cebu Island is directed towards those folk in towns, much further north than Cebu City. Added to which, we should be mindful that, even under normal circumstances, Philippinos do not enjoy the same level of communication reliability to which the people in Britain, Europe ( and, yes, even Oz and NZ) are accustomed. Whilst we cannot, yet, assume all is well, in the absence of information to the contrary we must prepare to wait several days (or even longer) before we can expect to hear joyful news from Tony. I hope members will not think I post this simply to add unneccessary tension, I don't, but just want to present the situation as I see it. If it eventuates that Tony needs our help in any way....please count me in.
....Roger

Re: Philippine Typhoon Extremely serious
You are right Chris, Tony is in his early seventies. As I said earlier on I contacted the Webmaster on SN and Andy sent me a link which only pertains to Tony or Stores as he is know on there. Have sent him a message (Tony that is) so will see what happens as to whether I receive a reply.

John

A British man, his partner, and three-year-old daughter are among those missing in the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, reports claim. Colin Bembridge, 61, was staying with his Filipino partner Maybelle, 35, and their child Victoria near Tacloban when the category five storm struck, killing thousands.
The pharmacist, who lives in Grimbsy, had been visiting his girlfriend's relatives and had hired a beach house in Baybay, one of the ravaged coastal villages, according to Channel 4 News.
