As someione who knows Australia fairly well and loves it dearly but was never fortunate enough to live there I hope things get better for those who are suffering from these dreadful fires. I remember travelling through the Adelaide Hills in the 1980's and seeing the damage caused then. I had the good fortune to meet up with Vernon during his recent visit to the UK. I can only send good vibes to all of you out there. Good on ya mates.

    Major Fire Updates

Watch and Act - Mount York Road, Mount Victoria Fire (Blue Mountains) 22/10/13 05:34

    Posted: 22/10/2013
Firefighters have backburned around the Blackheath area overnight, to assist with containing this fire around the Blackheath and Mount Victoria area.

    Current Situation
Backburning operations were carried out around the Blackheath area overnight in an effort to contain the fire and protect properties in the Blackheath area.
As a result of these operations, people in the Blackheath area may see an increase in fire and smoke. Firefighters will be working in the area.
The threat to the Great Western Highway has been reduced due to successful backburning of Berghofers Pass. Should conditions worsen, this fire may cross Berghofers Pass and force the closure of Great Western Highway to the west of Mount Victoria.
The fire could spread through Grose Valley and potentially threaten properties to the north of Great Western Highway at Mount Victoria.
A TOTAL FIRE BAN is in place for the Greater Sydney Region until further notice.

As usual at times such as these the 'climate changing' gang are at it again. UN version is saying this is the result of global warming.
Well a little bit of news for them.
Fires of this nature have raged in this country long befire the white man came, and there was ten times as much bush then, man has cleared so much for farming and housing etc.
In the 1880's there were a number of similar incidents though there was not as much property damage.
In the 1930's the Lare fires here in Victoria known as Black friday.
Then in 1983 the realy big one, the Victoria/South Australia fires burning on a 500 mile front. The epicentre on Mount Macedon only 50 kilometers from us at that time.
A number of bad fires since then in NSW and Victoria.
Then in 2009 Black Saturday here in Victoria, 173 dead and well over 100 properties gone.
The fact is Australia is the bush fire capital of the world, always has been always will be.
A tax on carbon as proposed by many is just that a tax on carbon, it does not stop carbon nor will it reduce fires, it is however a political tax.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

John, did you see the ABC's 7.30 report last night? Leah Sales was doing a good, well balanced job and cutting spin doctors mid sentence, but last night Annabelle Crabbe had a gaggle of university "professors" and dysfunctional greenies spouting a load of crappe and just one, not all that impressive, on the side of age old bush management. The ABC are reputed to have forty percent greenies in their reporting staff. And I reckon it must be 199% in SBS and Radio National!! So much for the National Public Media.

    Where is Leah Sales???
