If you extend the logic of subsidies who pays for them? - you and I in higher energy bills.
Think about the useless wind turbines:-
We give a subsidy to the prospective owners to install turbines.
We pay twice the cost of a M.W. generated in comparison with a conventional power station.
We pay (the owners) when we don't want the power and conventional stations can supply the power.
We pay (the owners) when its to windy for them to operate.
Its a win win situation for the owners, no wonder our bills are so high.

Its the reason that you see fields full of solar panels, all to please the people who organize these bun fights and stays in hotels at our expense, to agree the kyoti agreement Kt

This was a offspring of the pure Kyoto agreement and the silly carbon taxes on Industry that accompanied it , It was the Climate Change Levy

From when it was introduced, the levy was frozen at 0.43p/kWh on electricity, 0.15p/kWh on coal and 0.15p/kWh on gas.
In the 2006 budget it was announced that the levy would in future rise annually in line with inflation, starting from 1 April 2007 With effect from 1 April 2013 the rates are:

    Electricity 0.524p per kWh
    Mains Gas 0.182p per kWh
    LPG 1.172p per kg
Any other "taxable commodity" 1.429p per kg

A reduction of up to 80% from the levy may be gained by energy-intensive users provided they sign a Climate Change Agreement.

Revenue from the levy was offset by a 0.3% employers' rate reduction in National Insurance. However, the 2002 Finance Act subsequently increased that rate by 1%, reversing the reduction. The revenue used to fund a number of energy efficiency initiatives such as The Carbon Trust but this is no longer the case.

This was set against a Definitive year , and reductions in energy from that year I think !! it was 1998 , well sensible industry had a high year that year and a better year onwards ( Don't ask it was not a moral thing to do ) The inverters and gas saving devices caused rebates and pay backs , this is when I realised that Carbon Money was not real money , but imaginary virtual money . When you put in a wind turbine in the carbon balance you omitted the carbon cost of the cable in mining and refining the copper and manufacturing and laying the cable , some several miles long .You made a surplus and sold it on . to generators who could not generate a carbon neutral; site , at stupid prices equivalent to twice teh going rate , This is not real money it is a European fiddle in virtual land and costs millions , because of subsidies , A very boring subject too .

Good move Jim , Push the question how certain is the continued subsidy , and what happens if it gets lowered , I think personally that you will not have a problem , but make the beggers sweat a bit ! They are not doing you a favour , you are doing them one , if you have a South Facing roof , I know some people just hate having to face South , but that is where the Sun shines !!

you realise that you will get a visit from a "commission only" salesman who will want to stay with you all night until he gets a yes decision. He will use such ploys as test closes and last chance close.
I was a salesman and trained people in the past in double glazing ,kitchen sales, car sales and insurance.
Whatever you do don't make a decision on the night and don't believe that they will do a special deal if they can use your installation as a reference.
As somebody has already quoted.THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH.
