I may not be the brightest match in the box, but what the bloody hell are 3000 British troops and their families doing in Cypress???, if its peace keeping, why is the EU not playing a big role??, troops in Germany!!! what the hell are we playing at, i despair KT

I think at one stage the british army was based in Cyprus and other warmer climes to be acclimatised to hotter weather so the could go to india or Africa etc andup the gulf at short notice to fight in colder places they only have to send them to south shields when a north easter is blowing lol cappy

Like the Navy ran Malta the RAF ran Cyprus.My brother worked for GCHQ and worked at various listening post's shortly before he retired he did a three year stint in Cyprus.
