Cuts to Police and Armed Forces.

It is not the number of police you have but more a question of how you use the resources, If they are stuck in an office all day crime levels will rise, put them on the beat and you may well cut the crime rate. Here in Victoria we have a new concept, sub level police used on train stations to protect travellers and reduce crime levels. They are not transit police but since they came into being muggings, attacks and even graffiti levels have dropped dramaticaly. One of the woirst things are the speed cameras. They do little to reduce speed, you get a fine in the post, pay and that is that. However get pulled over by the police and it has a far more profound effect on you.

With the suggested ratios of police to civilian population it would appear that you could have every police officer from the Chief constable down on the beat. This would still be insufficient, and to aggravate the position by reducing numbers to me appears unthinkable. Cheers John Sabourn

All depends on the definition of police officer. Are they active duties or not as there would be at least half of them doing administrative duties as well as civil servants being grouped into the numbers. Who here would believe the numbers that they provide as they are all typed on rubber bands to suit the occassion. As for conscription it sounds great but you can be sure that they would come up with the type of conscription that they had here in Oz. A lottery system that could be manipulated to exclude those that they did not want called up not having to go. I for one should not be commenting on conscription due to a couple of facts. 1 conscription ended just before I could be called (all Bro's went though) and 2. I do not live there anymore but would like to run this thought up the flag pole. Compulsary conscription for all with the only exception being those that sign up to armed forces or those employed in emergency (only front line personel) services with police being included in this. Would love to see this happen here in Oz as well but would not trust any of the buggers in power not to mess with the regulations concerning the call up. Oh as and aside being in politics does not constitute emergency services.

Politicians would be the most dispensible as is no need for most of them. As it is usually there fault and their reasoning that most wars are fought, they should be the first to volunteer. Cheers John Sabourn

No one would be excluded, From conscription the rules have never changed and never will, The reason buddy the royal family or most of them are serving or served in the armed forces. NO select committee involved partner if you fit to trip you trip end of. Regards Les TERRY.

Hi shipmates, Rent a cop {private police force) that the real reason behind local crime commissoners ? the way to pay for it in the future in the U.K.local tax ? not local council rates The days of bobbies on the beat are gone, If you take a look into any private building/office you will see the new police in Action many are ex oversea army types from Africa, they do a good job, on min wage/long hours no payed overtime. The country side police force are made up of part time farmers shopkeepers/pub landlords and allsorts of others counrty people have joined up to help they get no money for doing the job ??? Looking for sheep / cattle stealers in dark fields? rural crime is big bussiness many millions of items are stolen every year not a very safe one this . Will post on the armed forces have a chart with all the latest cuts
