Shootings USA
John, we and all parents have sadness in our hearts at this atrocity in a primary school (or any other school for that matter) but does anyone think that this tragedy will change the mindset of the nearly all America attitude of "We have the right to bear arms" I doubt it very much, which is also the sad part. So many lives changed, so many hearts broken, all because some still think they are living in a film set of Cowboys and Indians.

one of my grandsons is in a children's hospital with pneumonia last night i was parking the car shutting down lights of a car pulled alongside a family got out and was met by a young man who suddenly burst in tears sobbing his heart out at the death of his child this was going on directly at the rear of my car so i was rooted to the seat not wanting to move at that time the poor lad was inconsolable and i must say there was a tear in my eyes they went back in to the hospital holding each other up i can only imagine the sorrow that is multiplied in that town at this time and the thousands of people it will effect a very sad day for humanity.jp

Guns in the USA
Agree with Ivan.
Some years ago I donated to the Brady gun control group until I realized it was a lost cause. Every moron in the country already has at least one gun.
My neighbour has a sticker on his large pickup reading "Don't trample on My Gun Rights." What a mind set.
Americans are a kind people but very naive. Crime is rampant with armed overweight police speeding round in cars with lights flashing. The criminals are skinny and can run faster so the cops have to shoot them in the back. When one is on the ground at least four cops will kick and beat him for "resisting arrest." Freedom! Democracy" What a crock!
In his last address President Eisenhower said, "Beware of the Industrial Military Complex." He knew what he was talking about.

God Bless Them Poor Little Souls,
And there parents and grandparents. The person or persons responsible for this don't deserve a christian burial of any kind toss him into the Potomac River and be done with him. Terry.

Why pollute the river, let the vultures have him. The fact remains that no matter how many times incidents such as this occur more will follow. Here in Oz back in 97 the PM passed a law outlawing the ownership of certain types of gun. It has made little difference. It is easier for a criminal or some one with mental disability, as no doubt was this man, than the ordinary decent living person. We may be able in time to take all guns from society but sadly mental illness will never be removed.

Happy daze John in Oz.

We here in the UK have had disasters by nutters with guns, i always despair when the same old phrase is trotted out * this must never be allowed to happen again*, but somehow it always does. Unfortunately even if a ban on owning guns could be achieved, that same nutter could use a car to achieve the same result, KT

With a certain type of mafia in Manchester a gun can be hired for the job and then it is returned, cleaned, sterilised etc or destroyed for a certain fee. and rules, Just like a Library.
So any nutter, gangster, can soon get a gun.
Cheers
Brian.

As a registered Gun Owner in the UK , I am licensed by the Police who check my sanity with my GP when I renew my licence , The laws in the UK are quite stringent , Handguns were outlawed in 1997 after Dunblane and Hungerford
Gun crime is falling dramatically in the UK as the graph below shows . Where these incidents occur in the UK they are very rare , we are 65th in the international table of Gun crime deaths having .22 deaths per 100,000 of population , The vast majority of gun crime is done with illegally held weapons . Most of the deaths with Legally held weapons seem to be Suicides .
In the USA , you can buy what I would term Assault type weapons , the guns that Soldiers carry , automatic machine guns that fire 600 rounds a minute , I can see no purpose at all in holding these weapons , they are neither sport or hunting , they are designed to kill people , quickly and efficiently . Our laws can be a bit of a pain , but I would rather live with them than the buy a gun over the counter in Wal-Mart with the bread and beans
The gun lobby cry is guns don't kill people until they get an idiot on the trigger , Assault weapons have that sole purpose to kill people , you would not kill a deer with one , the meat would be useless . America , needs to get tough on guns , like our laws here
