the nurse was manning the phone lines because the receptionist was absent from work so it was not her job to answer phones but she stood in for her.jp

Also she was from India, and probably would not have detected the phony royal accent. Even without this tragic end result, did they think that phoning a hospital and wasting their time was a joke??, the only ones to get a laugh was them. KT

I believe the Nurse was a Hindu, and because she felt shame she had to commit suicide because of her religion.
She is to be buried in India.
    .

I don't like the idea of people phoning in claiming to be relatives of the patient. IT IS WRONG.
Last July I had to go into hospital, While I was there someone called and said he was my Son.
He said I had been stealing drugs from my Son`s girl friend.
My Blood Pressure medication was stopped I asked why and that is what they told me, that I was a Druggy and could not have any medication from the hospital, This was said by the Nurse in front all the Ward with a loud voice, Everyone there was convinced I was a Druggy.
My son is a world famous Consultant Hepatologist and this phone call could even have affected his career.
I was discharged , so I wrote to the Chief Executive of the Hospital and complained, An investigation was started and the accusation was proved to be false and a mistake. I had a written apology from the hospital and all records of the event destroyed.
SO DAMAGE CAN BE DONE BY THESE CLOWNS WHO THINK IT IS JUST A LAUGH. IT SHOULD BE A CRIME.

    Default Nurse's Suicide

These two DJ's are described as young, one is 41 years old, the other is 37 years old, just think of the responsibilities we had at that age, shows that they have not grown up at all "we didn't think we had done anything wrong" for godsakes your adults, act like adults, think like adults. If you play in a kids world you stay a kid. I do find these days when talking to people of that generation, they seem to have no worldly skills and act childishly, or perhaps it's just me being a grumpy old man

I think they should be jailed.

People ask why the nurse took her life.
To my mind she was scared to be dragged thro newspapers and made a fool off.
Shame that news papers will never learn.
Why can't peop[le just live their own lifes.
Heart goes ouit to her family.

Ron not so much jailed may be if they spent time in the front line of nursing they might see for themselves what they do!! watch as an intensive care nurse dresses a baby who never made it past a week old like my girl dos and present it to a grieving family. or may be like one night trying to save a young boy who had been shot not living when arriving at the children's hospital and fighting for hours trying to make a difference to no avail and then when she comes home from work after the horrors of job willing to get back in the trenches for another 17 hour shift no amount of money could make even the strongest of us do that. as i say to her its not the one you lose its the 99 you save that makes it worth while they should be no subject of a joke in our lives we have all had responsibilities but i doubt if we have ever been in our 20s at the time so yes let them go and work at a hospital it may do something good out of something bad.jp

Having read the comments of my fellow members, I find I share their general sense of outrage. However, whilst not seeking to minimise the part played by two insensitive, attention-seeking morons that world opinion has cast as the 'villains of the piece', we should look further afield for those with whom prime responsibility for this tragic affair should rest. I refer, of course, to South Pacific Austereo, the employers of the two D.J.'s (adults masquerading as giggling children), for it is they who sanctioned the public broadcast of this 'jolly jape' which, for whatever reason, resulted in the death of a decent, innocent, human being. It is they who authorised the content of what was broadcast by their radio station, 2DayFM, and it is they to whom the disgust and contempt of most reasonable folk should be directed.

Tonight, here in Oz, whilst watching the news and a current affair programme, I learnt that South Pacific Austereo claim they have done
nothing illegal. They made no acknowledgement of the extreme tastelessness and ill-judgement they displayed by allowing such a thing to go to air, or for the further broadcasting of the 'incident' thereafter. It also seems that any legal advice the broadcaster may have sought in this matter failed to disclose that even before the fateful 'airing' they, i.e. S.P.Austereo, had commited a crime when they recorded a telephone conversation without the consent or knowledge of any person so recorded - so much for their claim to legality!

Les (Woodard), rarely do I find myself in disagreement with your dry, often very witty, proclamations, but on this issue, mate, I find we hold different views. I don't believe that this affair will disappear with next weeks 'chip' wrappings at all, I think it has much further to go before it has run it's course. Whilst I think it unlikely that any criminal action will be taken against the two D.J.'s, I would be very surprised if changes are not made to Australian laws governing the conduct of Radio and T.V. Broadcasters. I would not regard it as a knee-jerk reaction to what has occurred, but, rather, something long overdue. For far too long, sections of the electronic media and the 'gutter press' have deemed it their God- given right to trample over the basic rights and privacy of celebrity and common-folk alike and, for far too long, such practice has been allowed to continue, seemingly unhindered by ineffectual legislation. I am a firm believer in a 'free' press, but would hope that such freedom was tempered by a code of decency and common-sense. Unfortunately, in today's brave new world, decency and common-sense does not sell newspapers nor tittilate the eyes and ears of the masses.

Although I've often been accused of having a jaded view of life, somehow, on this occasion, I cannot but feel a great sadness for Jacintha Saldanha, her husband, children and extended family.

As I have said on my previous post, I suffered because of a malicious phone call whilst I was in Hospital.
It matters Not that Kate is a Royal , she was a Patient and does not need idiots making daft phone calls about her condition even if it did not have tragic results.
Any idiot making false calls to a Hospital , regardless of who the Patient is, should be severely punished.
I did not like it when it happened to me. If I ever found the bastard who phoned on my behalf, I would put him into Hospital in Intensive Care. IT IS NOT A `PRANK` OR A JOKE.
    Brian.
