'Tis A Very Rare Find...........
QUOTE.On E-Bay: Very Rare Find. A Golf Ball recovered from a First World War shipwreck during legitimate salvage operations about 1971 The ball is perfect in every way except very discoloured. The name of the shipwreck is unimportant at this stage but can indeed be revealed to the winning bidder as I do not wish to open a ship wreck forum at this stage. UNQUOTE
Bidding starts at £5,and postage will be £3!

This sounds rather bizarre.A golf ball? A ship’s bell perhaps, yes,or an old compass….but an old golf-ball? A very rare find.?............ I suppose you could say it is!
Do you think the seller is being very naïve,and do you think some even more naïve person might buy it? .I’m going to keep an eye on it just in case it does sell.
Does anyone know which wreck this very rare golf ball is from? I bet someone here does!
......
If you’re bidding for it….don’t all rush at once, and hope you’re not too disappointed……..

Well Vernon
What I meant was I could understand someone selling a ships bell or a compass from a wreck...but a golf ball?
Wonder who putt it there?

Sounds like a load of balls to me. Maybe it was washed out to sea at some point and then sank!!!!!!!

old balls
Hello Gulliver
it's alright I am not going to make any more corny jokes, I think the lads have done them all. I just wondered if anyone watched Antiques Road Show last week or the week before when a woman tipped up with a shoe box full of old golf balls that they had discovered when clearing out her fathers house. They were all worth a few hundred each, except one which if I remember rightly was worth about £3,000. So mock ye not.

Load Of Old Balls?...and thoughts about E-Bay
No Pete ,I never watched that. Just shows there's a market for everything, and something that someone else will always want.....and always a sucker who'll pay it....
About E-bAY.....I quite often bid for transport items, not necessarily connected with ships, and I find two recurring facts about the types of Bidder encountered:-
1.The bidder who wins an item(at a high price, sometimes sky-high in relation to the actual value) who, when you tap into his E-Bay profile, which is available to all, shows that he has been the winning bidder on various other items-could be anything, not necessarily in the same category. In other words,he's seen something he fancies, and he's going to have it at any cost...whether he wants it or not he's got to have it....perhaps to satisfy his inner being.....to win?, at any cost?,and because he's got plenty money usually .I've often been beaten by such a bidder, and thought afterwards...."Now why did he want that so badly?...
2. The bidder who is also an established seller, who doesn't want the item for himself, but sees it as an item to win, then sell on at a profit.Sure enough, within a week or so,the very same item is up for auction on E-Bay,always at a higher price than bought. The greedy so-and so's!
But that's business I suppose,and dog-eat-dog rules.
I think Sellers shouldn't be allowed to be Buyers on E-Bay
....but of course there's no way round that,as they can always just open an account in another name.
I'm only saying all this because I've lost out a few times,,
And I've also had a few bargains, too,so not complaining too much.It can be fun, especially when you win!
Regards
Gulliver
