The Dilkara, the Allunga, the Paralla

Dear all,

I'm an amateur novelist looking for information about crossing the South Pacific from Australasia to South America around 1981/82.

I was told that three Blue Star ships (the Dilkara, the Allunga or the Paralla) went that way at that time. And I would like to know if you could confirm it, or if you knew a way to confirm it.

Actually, I'm looking for ships which would have done that route (leaving/passing by Australia/New Zealand and going to Chile/Argentina, passing by the south of the continent). If you had that information, I would be very pleased to hear it.

Although i cannot find much on the Routes you need there is the Guildhall Library in the UK that should hold all the Voyage Record Cards , however not too sure as to when they would have records to?? Many on site have applied for Record Cards but then these were of earlier Years, but worth a try, to contact them and ask the question?

Michael in the years you are talking about there used to be a business called ocean routing who used to sell their idea of the best weather routing to company’s to advise their masters which way to go. The few times I have seen such wares purchased most masters I knew used to ignore and go the way they thought and knew from experience were best.However Ocean Routing May well still be in business and if so they will give you all different bits of advice you need ,try google who knows , that’s were most get their information from these days.cheers all the best JS.

Hi Michael you appear to be struggling for hard advice and information on these ships. There is another Merchant Navy site called 'Ships Nostalgia' Which has a thread that was started about 4 years ago and had a post added recently, about the Dilkara and her sister ships. It is easy to google and find the site and to search for the thread. It might be worth looking at and joining the site to see if you can contact any of the people who sailed on the ships for the information that you are seeking. good luck with your search J.W.
