    Hi Bill
Welcome aboard you will find plenty of good posts on this site the best MN site there is.
Was the Bhamo the only ship you were on? What was the company name, if not list the rest of your ships and the dates. Hope you can come up with a mate from your days at sea, there have been plenty of reunions on site.
    Cheers Des

Welcome Bill.I see you had to put your post in the ED Forum,so perhaps Brian could make a new Henderson Line sub-forum?
Anyway,I remember when I joined Bibby Line,we used to have a joint run with Paddy Hendersons out to Ceylon(I could never get used to calling it Sri Lanka) and Burma. We used to share the wharf and warehouse in Vittoria Dock,Birkenhead, with them. I think the last sailing on the Joint Service was in 1972.(the next sailing after mine),although not sure when the last Henderson line sailing was. Of course by then Suez had been closed for 5 years,so it was a long slog via The Cape, which must have been uneconomic. And anyway I suppose the national Burma Five Star Line was well-established, as it was already part of the Burma Conference lines with Bibby's and Paddy Hendersons. We had Burmese crews(excellent) and a few officers of Burmese nationality on our Bibby ships.
I never saw Burma, regrettably,as our ship, the Staffordshire suffered engine failure and we trans-shipped all our Rangoon cargo in Colombo.(1971)

The Bhamo looks a typical well-built British ship of her era,and nice to know she managed 22 years service in the end.

    Default m v "Bhamo"

I sailed on the "Bhamo" as Elder Dempster Purser from 18.07.1959 until 16.08.1960. The ship was then on the West African service of ED's but she still carried her Burmese crew. I remember her as a happy ship - and the curries were great too!

    Default Bhamo

    Sorry, Bev,
Daru changed her name to Yoma. Bhamo became Bhamot for her trip to the breakers. Sailed on both during my time with Elder Dempster.
