mv Fulani, ex Thurland Castle
I sailed in Fulani as a cadet in 1957, my first voyage. There were several Fulanis under ED's flag but "my" Fulani was built in 1929 as the Thurland Castle. Now in my old age I have a fancy to make a model of her. I have one clear photo taken in Takoradi but would like to have any others available. Any relevant details would be welcome as well.

Re: mv Fulani, ex Thurland Castle
Frederick, as the ships were registered in Liverpool, it may be worth contacting the archivists at Liverpool University and also the main library, as they may have photos/plans in their files. I only suggest this because Hull University used to keep photos of ships registered in Hull in their archives

Re: mv Fulani, ex Thurland Castle
Afraid not but thanks for your interest. The Fulani in your pic was the successor to Fulani, ex Thurland Castle, built at Cammel Lairds 1929 and broken up at Odense 1958.

Re: mv Fulani, ex Thurland Castle
To doc Vernon: That's her. I missed this pic somehow when I made my reply. It's a much better photo than my own and from an angle more useful to a would-be model maker. I was also short of the dimensions, so thanks for all of it. Best regards, Frederick Scott.

#1... Fred see you come from Hexham almost the centre of England, Haltwhistle claiming that fame. Wondered if you knew a family called Nicholas from Hexham. The father and two sons were at sea. The younger of the two sons I served my time with Brian Nicholas. Just on the off chance. Regards John S.

Re: mv Fulani, ex Thurland Castle
Sorry John, I don't know them. Hexham is a fairly recent stopping place for me, most of my early life spent in Liverpool and North Wales. Several other places in later years. Restless, you see. Itchy feet. Glad I can still get about on them. Thanks for your contact and best wishes to you. Fred Scott.
