Re: UK's Largest Cruise Ship.
I went out for meal with an old work friend last night, he has not been too well and has to walk with sticks. Him and his wife went on a cruise to Norway a fortnight ago with his wife, and unfortunately had a fall in his cabin. He was taken to the ships Dr, and they feared he may have broken his hip, which turned out not to be the case. Initially they wanted to put him ashore in the Farne Islands, but he protested that as no hospital there it was harder to get to a hospital, they agreed to keep him on until Southampton. The main part of this post was he then got the bill from the ship, £1460 !!, this included £ 135 to be transferred from his cabin to the ships hospital !!.He was insured minus the £100 excess. The second case I heard from another guy a short while ago he returned from a cruise round Britain , noro virus affected the ship, they charged one women £ 120 for an injection, which she refused to pay as she maintained they had poisoned her. It seems that the cruise trade is reaching saturation point here in UK, so the idea is to get you aboard cheaply, then zap you for everything once on board. They won't be seeing me I,m afraid. Kt

Re: UK's Largest Cruise Ship.
I always take my own medicines with me on a cruise to cover most things.
Things like Stretch Bandages, Plasters, antiseptic ointments, a Sling for the arm and a folding walking stick for the leg if I injure it.
Imodium for the wild sites, indigestion tablets and Gaviscon. Cough mixture Pain killers, like Paracetomol and so on.
Medical bills can be expensive on cruise ships. So I look after myself.
I am off again in January for a 60 day world cruise so I am prepared.
Also some shipping cruise companies have a lot of extra charges, Chose the Company wisely and no problems. I find that Holland America Line are the best cruise Line to sale with. I used to always sail Cunard BUT H.A.L are far better.
Again get good insurance, no problem.
Two years ago I had four days left to live when I went into Hospital in Honolulu and they saved my life, Insurance cost was $88,000 including hotel for Anne and a First Class flight back home. No extra charges when I renewed the insurance. That was with Royalties Gold at RBS.

Re: UK's Largest Cruise Ship.
This guy had to pay the £1460 up front and then claim from his insurance company, I have no idea if that is normal. The other guy on the cruise round UK has said he has had enough now, he has done 55 cruises over the years, and said the business of charging for every little thing is getting worse, kt

Most cruise ships will take details of your credit card before boarding so he would automatically be charged for the 'service'.

Re: UK's Largest Cruise Ship.
#15.... Maybe that's because Fred Olson used to start their cruises from the Tyne, and Cappy with his Norwegian connections may have had something to do with it. The Norwegian passengers on their shopping sprees used to make a bee line for Marks and Sparks get newly attired and leave their old clothes behind. Maybe also where Cappy got the idea for going into the manufacturing side and making his fortune. The Norwegian Seabourn line I often wondered if they had anything to do with my predessors, but afraid of getting the bums rush if I approached them cap in hand. Cheers JS

Re: UK's Largest Cruise Ship.
I see on the news again that i guy on the cruise ship Black Watch, or black something, caught Legionaires disease, and was taken to hospital in Spain, he was very ill. he has taken the shipping company to court and been awarded a large ammount of money, so things are beginning to change perhaps KT

Re: UK's Largest Cruise Ship.
###being on a cruise liner today with all the canned air is the same as being in a plane day after day the accom is just a breeding ground for germs and bugs ....i have never flown without a day or so later coughing or same......they now have thousands of geese all breathing the same airand touching the same handrails ....not all will be particular in cleanliness and hygiene.....it does not surprise me that these bugs just go on and on......but i think fire is a big danger with folk in wheelchairs 5 and 6 decks down......when the electrics go .......but what a coup to have one taken over by terrorists with the chance to hold thousands to ransom......we should have SAS or GHURKAS on them all inc the ferries.....but the powers that be cant see that far ahead......too busy looking after themselves.........but who cares ...cappy
