Re: The sadest of News Today
#27, to Doc and others who have been in touch re my post, Brian our boss, has been in touch with me and is not against the idea, but as Lou posted over 2200 posts on various subjects, it may not be possible to separate out the Japanese ones, but he is certainly looking into what can be done to keep Lou's memories alive and will investigate further what can be done. So a thousand thanks to Brian for giving it his attention, it is appreciated.

Re: The sadest of News Today
May I add my sincere condolences to Lou's family. Like many on here I never met the gentleman he was but through his posting felt of him as a true friend of all who sail on this site.
May he rest in peace.

Re: The sadest of News Today
Yes I had the pleasure of meeting Lou and enjoyed his company so much that I met up with him every day during his visit to Liverpool. It was through Lou coming to Liverpool that the Liverpool meet-up at the Pen&Wig came about. I know Lou enjoyed the meeting immensely meeting the lads off the site and having his couple of pints of John Smiths which he acquired quite a taste for.Lou always wished further meet-ups well and was just sorry that he could not be there,we will certainly have a toast to an absent friend on Sat.6th June at the P&W.He was quite fit Lou,we were crossing the dual carriageway at the Pier Head when the traffic came at us Lou sprinted away like a two year old and left me standing.Yes Lou gone but will never be forgotten.
With Deepest Sympathy To Lou's Family.
Jim Brady.

Re: The sadest of News Today
Lou was so very kind to Pete and I when we visited Dunedin last February- felt as if I had known him for years ! I have written to Brenda and family and I'm sure that, by now, they know how we held him in so much regard and perhaps this will bring them some comfort.
Safe harbour after your long life's voyage,Lou. God Bless.

Re: The sadest of News Today
The Old Sailor - Poem by Margaret Elizabeth Sangster:
I've crossed the bar at last, mates,
My longest voyage is done;
And I can sit here, peaceful,
And watch th' setting sun
A-smilin' kind of glad like
Upon the waves so free.
My longest voyage is done, mates,
But oh, the heart of me,
Is out where sea meets skyline!
My longest voyage is done. . . .
But - can I sit, in peace, mates,
And watch the settin' sun?
For what's a peaceful life, mates,
When every breeze so free,
When every gale a-blowin',
Brings messages to me?
And is the sky so shinin',
For all it's golden sun,
To one who loves the sea, mates,
And knows his voyage is done?
And, can a year on land, mates,
Match with one day - at sea?
Ah, every wind a-singin'
Brings memory to me!
I've crossed the bar at last, mates,
My longest voyage is past,
And I must watch the sunset,
Must see it fade, at last.
My steps are not so light, mates,
As they were, years ago;
And sometimes, when I'm tired,
My head droops kind of low -
Yet, though I'm old and - weary,
The waves that dance so free,
Keep callin' to my soul, mates,
And thrill the heart of me!
Margaret Elizabeth Sangster
Sad to hear this news, Keith.
