In Memory of....
In memory of Norman Moat, who crossed the bar 13th November 2007, aged 67, after a long, hard struggle with cancer. Norman was Senior Electrical Engineer with Palm Line for 27 years, my shipmate 1962 – 68, he would stand in as junior engineer when we sailed short handed. He was my Best Man and he was my best buddy for 46 years, he was a gentleman through and through, even in the last days of his struggle. He is sadly missed but will never be forgotten. God Bless you Norman.

Dear Russ
I'm so very sad to hear about your best man and good mate Norman Moat, especially as he was quite young.
It must be painful for you at this time, and I share your sadness,as I know many others will here.
It's up to us all to remember our mates by keeping the dream alive for them and us,and I know this 'ship' helps us to do just that. We All Understand.
To Norman then! And God Bless to You,Russ!

A Sad Day!
Hello Russ,
Although its been a while since his passing,i know that a good Friend like that will and can never be forgotten, its always so hard to loose someone who you have just about grown up with, and is almost like a Brother!
I have also had that experience Russ,as i suppose have many here.
I hope that time has healed the pain a bit Russ, but the memory will go on forever!
Take care mate!
Cheers
Rest in Peace Norman!

In Memory of.....
Hi Davey, Vernon,
Thanks for your kind words an support regarding Norman. You know Vernon, you hit the nail right on the head. Norman was an only child, I had a brother who emigrated to Aussie in 52, so I never really new him. as a result Norman and I became very close, he always said we were like brothers. He introduced me to my wife (always told him he had a lot to answer for!!!), my wife and his wife are exceptionally close, even more so now. As you and Davey have said the memories are great, they can never be taken away. This site is amazing for creating new friends, even though we are hundreds or thousand of miles apart.
Thanks again and God Bless you both.
Russ

For Russ...In Memory of Norman Moat 1940-2007
Crossing The Bar
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourn of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

The Last Voyage
By Katharine Tynan Hinkson
Some morning I shall rise from sleep,
When all the house is still and dark.
I shall steal down and find my ship
By the dim quayside, and embark,
Nor fear the seas nor any wind.
I have known Fear, but now no more.
The winds shall bear me safe and kind,
Long-hoped for and long-waited for.
To no strange country shall I come,
But to mine own delightful land,
With Love to bid me welcome home
And Love to lead me by the hand.
Love, you and I shall cling together,
And look long in each other’s eyes.
There shall be rose and violet weather
Under the trees of Paradise.
We shall not hear the ticking clock,
Nor the swift rustle of Time’s wings,
Nor dread the sharp dividing stroke
Being come now to immortal things.
You of that beauty shall be fain,
Being now no new inhabitant,
Its beauties to point out, explain,
And all its dear delights to vaunt.
They will not end in a thousand years.
Love, we shall be so long together
Withouten any sword to fear,
Glad in the rose and violet weather.
With all those wonders to admire,
And the heart’s hunger satisfied,
Given at the last the heart’s desire
We shall forget we ever died.
Oh, in some morning dateless yet
I shall steal out in the sweet dark
And find my ship with sails all set
By the dim quayside, and embark.
In memory of Norman Moat and the many.

Remembering Norman MOAT
Hello Russ.......Just to let you know that I ( and I'm sure many of us here) understand how you must be feeling today as you remember the passing of your dear friend, Norman. Having looked at the 'pic' Russ, dare I say it, but you and Norman actually do look like brothers. Take care mate, Roger.
