Passport problems
On the news today, a 77 year old ex BMN man was on his way to take a cruise to USA
Trevor. Bamford, does any one know the name, was told he could not go and handed a letter explaining why.
His UK passport had 10 years and 7 months on it.
It was new with a carry over of 7 months from the old one.
EU law only allows for maximum of 10 years. The ship was to call into an EU port on the way to USA
Had to pay then to fly to USA where he has relis he was to meet up with.

Re: Passport problems
Many people have had problems over passports, mainly with Airlines and also EU regs. If you have less than 6 months on your current passport the likes of Ryanair Easy Jet to name but two will not let you board. This basically came about since 2021 something to do with Brexit & UK passports. When we go over I travel on an Irish passport which I got before Brixit as my Grand Parents on my mothers side were born in Ireland. My Wife has to use her British one , she queues I walk through , Thanks to the Idiot Boris, but that is another story.
Another new money making scam is the introduction of what is called an ETA.(Electornic Travel Authorisation )
An ETA gives you permission to travel to the UK. It costs £16 to apply for one through the UK ETA app or the GOV.UK website.

Re: Passport problems
Checked through all my old passports, I have them all since the first when I was sixteen, also for more than twenty years I had two UK passports ( this is allowed for business purposes, travel on one and be applying for visas with the other one, I was working all over Africa at the time) one in the 1990s was two months over the the second last was nine months over. The lastest I got last month a month early but the did not carry over the time on the new one, maybe they have stopped doing that?

Still can I believe, I had two for same reasons as you, but also as an option for where you presented it. Some countries will give you grief if you have stamps from another country they are at odds with so as I had several Iran and Yemen stamps in one I would not use that one in certain other countries and vice versa.

Re: Passport problems
I never had a passport even after living in NZ for 17 years, then we came across to live in Aus my wife had a British one; I had applied to the British legation in Wellington, but they took so long, as I was having my little boy put on it, we arrived in Sydney, I showed them my MN discharge book they just looked at me and said in you go. Don't think that would happen now.

Re: Passport problems
Here in Oz they will not let you go anywhere unless at least six months on passport.
Took out Oz nationality three years after coming here, paying tax here so why not.
Never had a problem going anywhere with it, many will tell you it is one of the best anywhere in the world and will be accepted by all!!
As to the new ETA, I contacted the British office here in Melbourne, told that as I was born in Uk it does not matter, no ETA needed even when using my Oz passport.
But like so many regulations one has to ask, is this to protect or to raise revenue?

Re: Passport problems
My son and my two Grand daughters are coming over from Bordeaux in July. As my son holds a British Passport he does not need the ETA coming here but he needs one for going back into France , even though he has French Residency Status. The two Grand Kids need the ETA to come to the UK as they are French passport holders, obviously they do not need them to return to France.

Re: Passport problems
#3 said once before one time over in UK travelled on Australian passport out of Oz .Arriving Heathrow immigration asked me if had British passport as well, said yes, so he said join that queue over there will get though quicker and did so every time I went back . Both passports well out of date now so is good excuse for staying put. Couldn’t even use old discharge books now as all full up and in tatters .JS.

Re: Passport problems
Knew a guy who went to UK on his Oz passport.
Like john saw the long queue and joined the UK one as he also had a UK passport.
When asked where he had come from and told them he was fined well over $300 dollars for attempting to use two passports at the same time.
