The best means of Identification as well as your passport is your Dishcharge book and ID card, your NHI number , your birth certificate, your driving licence .your marriage certificate . To give a false name is still classed as a criminal offence if used for the purpose of deception for advancing your own personal well being be it monetary, terrorism, deceit, propoganda , or any misdemeanour. Any worthy citizen if he knows of any such deception should inform the appropriate authority’s. JS

Your passport must have 6 months left on it. However this 6 months is for the duration of your stay only and there must be additional for your travel to and from your destination. In other words you really need at least 7-8 months left to be sure. This is an international requirement. The airlines and cruise companies are a lot stricter now in policing this requirement.

When we came back from NZ my wife asked the customs lady why should we have at least six months left on a passport, she said to make sure you have enough to go back.then we can send you back.

Some countries take a much bigger look at your passport than others.
In Russia back in 2017 it took ages to get through the queue ashore, the guy on the desk would look at the photo back and forth for well over a minute before stamping it for you to go through.

In Cork airport same trip just one glance and all done.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

I have an idea it is mainly money. The movement of people internationally is now seen as a legitimate tax gathering scheme. As always the US leads the charge. Etas and baggage charges kicked it all off. Tourist tax and bed taxes soon followed. Just saying.
