Clan Line Comments for Charlie Mintof
Surprise, Surprise, My old buddy Charlie Mintof.
Hello Charlie. I can be mistaken as there may be many Charlie Mintofs on Gozo, but I am pretty sure you sailed on the Vigour and Zeal of Manchester Liners. I sailed with you back in the mid 1970s. I did a short spell in Clan Line myself so I have just entered their pages to see if I could pick up any old names. I have also , today, entered the page of Manchester Liners to see that not one person has used the site or so I believe. ML has its own well used Old Shipmates site search " Manchester Liners Old Shipmates Association". Nice to here you are alive and kicking. Funnily enough, I am just making out a report for mcewen and howard Limited to show that one Colombian student had completed a successful English language course in Malta at ClubClass so it is so coincidental to come across your name and Malta. It is a very small world. I have such wondeful memories of my times sailing on the Vigour down the Med. After the North Atlantic it was a doddle to sail down the Med. As it happens, I have been with a yacht club for 22 years and we are due to race in the Med , based at Palma, in the first week May 2013.
warmest regards
Neil Howard ex 2nd Eng Manchester Vigour

Charlie Mintoff
Hiya Neil,
Charlie started this thread in 2008 and has never replied to any of the posts, 8 pages of them. Maybe he doesn't look in nowadays.
I sailed with a Charlie Mintoff, a greaser, on the Manchester Fame in the early 60's. He was one of the Salford Maltese community, a lovely man who later emigrated to Toronto, Canada where he had family.
Alec.

Re: Mally O'Kane
Alan Disley
I was 2nd Elec on the Macintosh in 1959/60 when Bob Turriff was Chief Elec and often think there may be some of that crew still around.
Sadly heard Bob died early 2000 after retiring from the Stranraer ferries.

Clan Keith
Some of you were discussing earlier in this thread if there had been an enquiry into the loss of Clan Keith.
There was and the full transcript can be found here:

Hope this is of interest, it is clearly and concisely written.

Re: Intriguing!......
Hi Charlie Mintoff,
You may recall a voyage on the Manchester Zeal when you and your mates went on the wooden train and you got your camera strap stuck in the door and had to belt down the platform before unhooking yourself. I remember it well. Neil Howard 2nd Engineer

Re: Lets See some comments About CLAN LINE
Hi Charlie, Bill Walker here. Cadet to 2nd Mate. I sailed in B&C from 1958 to 1971 I believe we sailed together but cannot remember which ship. It might have been Clan Ramsey in 1968. I was 2nd Mate at the time. Am I right. I am now retired and living in Lincolnshire.

Re: Clan Keith
The Master survived and in the court of inquiry testified that he thought the ship had struck a mine or been torpedoed. This created such a row that questions were asked in the House concerning any hostile governments who might commit such an atrocity. The ship went up on Galita Island in severe northerly winds for which, the 2nd officer declared, insufficient leeway had been applied to the course. The ship was bound for Australia with a general cargo and did not carry anything explosive enough to cause such a catastrophic accident. Bill Walker Clan Line from 1958 to 1974 cadet to 2nd Mate.
