British Comet.....
PLEASE NOTE THAT DUFFY'S POST WAS ON 4TH FEBRUARY 2009 (N.B.) ie.2 years and 2 months ago).
SHE DID NOT BOTHER REPLYING (apart from one reply to a Visitor Message on that same date)AND INDEED HAS NOT BEEN ACTIVE SINCE,despite many of us attaching various pictures of the BRITISH COMET.
I would imagine her request has been fulfilled.
Just thought I'd save anyone the effort in replying.
It really does pay to read when each post of a thread was published, and also the date when that member was last active.
Some of the posts go back years.

British Comet
Hi Gulliver
Agree with you that it may be time to call a halt on this, but to say she did not bother to reply may be a bit harsh
We don't know the circumstances of her not replying, she made have had an accident or something, we seamen are charitable folk, so lets give her the benefit of the doubt. I know that I have been in situations where I could not contact someone for months through no fault of my own.
But if she is still out there and reading this, I hope she has the courtesy to contact the site and thank the members for their efforts on her behalf and advise them that her requirements have been met.

Correction if I may.
Water entry was due to the lube oil cooler end cover deciding to fail, due to the design and with the water entering so rapidly, we were unable to see the source of the leak.
I do seem to recall that one of the other Eyties did have a stern tube fault which caused partial flooding of the machinery spaces off the west African coast.
Our understanding was that Ocean Bridge ceased tank cleaning on arrival at the scene of the incident, would seem to be the common sense thing to do. Believe it was said at the time this saved lives as there was no one on deck in the way of the explosion.
On the assumption that they were using portable Butterworth type machines, someone did put forward the theory that the machines were left in the cargo tank and this may have caused the explosion, possible?
Do not recall there being an women being ammongst the survivors though was rather busy at the time, there is no mention of any women in the press cuttings I have.
