Re: BP ships served on
I was a JOS on the British Kiwi, 14 Jan 1964 - 30 Jul 1964
Immingham - Curacao
Curacao - Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico - Luanda (then in Angola, W Africa)
Luanda - Lobito
Lobiti - Ango Ango (an interesting port: 100 or so miles inland up the mighty Congo River. The jetty where we discharged a part cargo of Avgas was just around the corner to an almighty whirpool in the river..!!! Few of us sold jeans and jumpers to some locals and had a night "ashore" in nearby Matadi...)
Ango Ango - Capetown
Capetown - East London - Durban - Biera (then in Mozambique, E Africa)
From there up the Gulf then backwards and forwards between the Gulf and ports in S Africa
Natal was a fascinating place in the mid-60's...
Eventually did the home trip from the Gulf back to Immingham
Great Ship Great Crew Great Times
(I can't even remember the name of one single crewmember...)

Joseph, that's not surprising, as we all had nicknames, whitey (for our coloured brethren) , chalky, dusty, miller, cloey, paddy, taffy, scotty, jock, jonesy, smithy, saile with two brothers from Dudley, they were known as dud and lee, then there were the usual rank names chippy, bos'n, lecky, second, chief, third, etc etc, our proper names (rarely used) were on the 'Lifeboat Stations' notice but who looked at them, we already knew our place from boat drill and fire drill

Re: BP ships served on
Hi Ivan...
There were two other JOS' - both from the Middlesbrough area: shared a cabin with them: One had the Nick of "Red" because of his hair colour - and I think the other lad (wrongly) had the Nick of "Yorky" - he was a 'quiet' fair-haired lad... We all had a passion for the Rolling Stones and spent many a night "rocking along" to Sticky Fingers and Beggars Banquet... I don't even know if I had a Nick... might have been 'Doddsy' - or maybe "Makkem", since I was from Sunderland...
The Bosun was a real Mariner - I think his christened name was Iain - but he got "Shelty" - a fellow from the Shetland Isles - with a thick Shetland accent... Supervised our running bowlines then hoisted us aloft up the For'ard mast... let us splice and whip working ropes... "old" seaman-ship stuff - but still very relevant in the 60's...
It was on the KIWI I first crossed the line... The 2nd Mate was a good sort - dressed as Old Neptune - smeared us with black grease and white flour...
That was a good trip... Sticks in my mind... Everything except the names...
