Re: Ben Line list
Hi Jim, I was onboard with you on that voyage. My name is Forbes Mitchell and I was 5th Engineer. The old man was Ian Mackay. Deck cadet's name was Davy from Dundee, he had his wrist/arm broken again when we got to Portugal as it had set wrongly. Forgive me Jim but I believe it was in 1975, as that's the only dates in my discharge book that ties in. Anyways no worries, I joined the ship in London and we payed off in Dublin, that was my first and last trip through the Panama canal. We were stuck in Puerto Rico for a few days till the ruptured tank was made safe and we could continue the trip, hence Davy came with us as we were just supposed to drop him onto the pilots boat and he was to have been flown home. The sea state was too rough for transfer which led us into shallow waters end of. I mind going up the road there, a massive fiesta was going full tilt and several beers were enjoyed. Great memories my old friend, I lived in Portgordon back then but now live in Strichen. I was 22 now 67 how time flies eh. Hope you see this, all the very best Jim.
Regards,
Forbes Mitchell.

Hi John. I have just come across this post. Two Andy's I recall in SML were an Andy May from Fraserburgh and Andy Milne from Buckie both were 2nd Engs. while I was there.
This being a Ben Line thread never really check it out as my friend and former apprentice Dennis Malcolm was two years on the Ben Rinnes 1964-66. He passed away a few years ago.

Re: Ben Line list
#149 Think it is the one from Fraserburgh. Sailed with Andy when I was mate on one of SML platform Supply vessels. Think Peter Bloomer was master. Andy’s first drink was always a double and he always went back to ship after a very short time ashore. Hope he is still alive and well was good company. JS
