Re: Athel Empress year unknown
Hi,
I am new to this site.
I am looking for relatives of crew members tanker ATHEL EMPRESS in summer 1937.
We are fulfilling the history of sailing yacht "STORTEBEKER III" (33ft. Yawl).
She was built 1937 by A&R and crossed the atlantic singlehanded by Capt. Ludwig Schlimbach
aged 61 in summer 1937. (Lissabon to NY, 57days)
"STORTEBEKER III" met ATHEL EMPRESS in the middle of Atlantic ocean. The had contact (via morse light and flags). ATHEL EMPRESS sent a position to Hamburg.
We hope to find out relatives of the crew, who have private photos of this meeting.
Do you know how to find out the crew list of summer 1937 and hopefully contacts to relatives of the crew ?
Thank you very much for any tips.
Regards
Andreas Reuner, Hamburg

Hello Andreas
Welcome to the site and I hope you will get some good replies to your query!
Just to start there are Crew Lists for the Athelempress for the years around that time but not for 1937,however these could be of some help, you will have to apply for what you want from Canada!
Cheers

Re: Athel Empress year unknown
Hello Andreas
You will have to go to Order Crew List section and fill out all the info you can, they have a list of what they need!
They will send you a cost of what it will be!
Looks expensive I know but don't fret too much,as they work fast.
Send your application care of a Mrs Tanya MacDonald she is really good and is the one to deal with!
You can tell her that Vernon gave you the name!
Myself and others have got our Crew Lists from there!

Re: Athel Empress year unknown
As there seem to be no records of her 1937 Crew Agreements, there are two possibilities. One they no longer survive or secondly the ship may not have returned to the UK between 1936-1938, so I would check her 1936 Crew Agreements first.

Re: Athel Empress year unknown
I've just joined this site today, so I don't know how far you've got or are still here.
My father, Albert Henry Dunstan, was a cabin boy on the ship. His records don't show when or where he joined the ship, but they give a discharge date of 16.9.1941 at Portsmouth.
