Discharge numbers/ Campbell
I am seeking the service record of Arnold Campbell, born Liverpool 1915. On Find My Past, there are 6 names listed but only the Initial A, and no place of birth. Is it possible to find out just from the Discharge numbers who they relate to. Thankyou. Moya

Find my past only cover records up to 1941 taken from the Fourth Register of Seamen's Service. If his service continued after this, his records would have been moved up into the Fifth Register, which are held at Kew in block by the individuals surname and would be best viewed by visiting Kew as any private research would have inevitable costs.

As I live in Australia, a visit to Kew is out of the question. The list of names in Findmypast do not give places of birth, so I am assuming that they are not on those records, so to view each record for 20 credits and hope that one of the "fits' is beyond my resources. I know that he was in the service after 1941 so I'll keep plodding. Thankyou Moya

Arnold Campbell:
Could you explain how you know that he was in the service after 1941 ?
He does not appear to be listed with the CWGC, which could suggest he also survived WW2 ?
Have you any information on what became of him or date, place of death etc ?
K.

As I have already mentioned, there will be no records of him from find my past as he served after 1941, so you would be just wasting your credits
His file should be held at Kew in BT 382/268 covering the surnames "Campbell Angus Alex to Campbell David Thomson"
By clicking on the hyperlink you can check the "ordering and viewing" link on the page and request them to search these files. As they are held in block you will receive a message back from Kew advising it will undertake some extra reseach due to the files being held in block. You then have an option to agree for them to undertake the research and you will bre quoted a price, which you can either accept or reject. As the surname is fairly common, I would also advise you give them as much detail as possible including date of birth and if you have it available his Discharge Book No.
