What gets me we have just over 8000 members on this wonderful site ( started by a far seeing person in Brian )and the number of them who seem yo never put a post on this site WHY???

I have put several posts to this site they were there for the first day then never to be seen again.
Some posts are still on screen for months and months yet mine always disappear,How Come?

My first activity each day since I found this site is to log in and check what is going on with all you old (censored). It's not just the old salts with their yarns and memories. The youngsters have something to contribute just as do the non-seafarers. Almost every post jars a chord somewhere and has me disappearing down memory lane before rushing out the house to bore the pants off anyone silly enough to ask me how I am. Simple things like the random pictures at the head of the forum page. I see a proper ship and I'm lost in the gallery and the whole world is put on hold, at least that small part of the world over which I hold sway. At the moment there are a couple of Prince boats up there and I'm like a kid in the run up to xmas wondering if the next one I rattle will be the one I'm after, my first boat.

One memory I could do with some help on. My ex runs a little cafe and the other day she picked up on my referring to the hot cabinet as the "press". I can only think it came from my peggying days. I know in Ireland a hot press is an airing cupboard but as I didn't get much beyond the first bar I can't see I picked up the expression there. Help needed.

Hi Eric. If you look up to the top right of your screen you will see a link called "My Profile" Click on that and then on the left hand side look for "Find Latest Posts". If you now click on that it will show you every post that you have made on the site and where it is located. I find that commonly when members say they have lost one or more of their posts it is simply that they have forgotten where they actually posted it. Hope this helps.

I agree Lou, but what about posting photo's on the gallery ?,it seems to be the same few members that post. I know,not everyone has the facilities (Printer) or know-how but when you view, just add a comment or rating to show your appreciation for their efforts.

With you on that one Brian and took me a while before I started posting. Now you can't shut me up. Everyone has an opinion and even though someone has already aired it does not detract from your slant on it. If nothing else it allows the original poster to think "Yes, I'm not the only lunatic in the asylum". Somebody was posting the other day about their pet parrot and it got me thinking to one I picked up in Dakar. Last I saw of the randy sod was chasing after a shitehawk mid-atlantic and getting outside the boats vortex? it couldn't catch up with us. I dashed to the bridge but was advised it was insufficient reason to slow down much less put about. No soul those Shell 2nd mates!

Tony censorship is a lot more lax now mate thanks for that. Could never understand why some found certain topics offensive as no one forces them to read it. I do my own censoring of this site in the aspect that I only open up subjects to read that I am interested in and leave others alone for those involved to enjoy participating. My only beef is that others do not follow those ideas and just but out of threads that upset them. Have said in the past and will reiterate again it is like being on board again where we would all congregate into our separate mess rooms. No Tony I was not having a go at yourself just a few that think that they have to police every thread on site to conform to their ideals only. They would never have got away with it at sea.

First of All In Reply to Peter post 15 i would like to post photos on the gallery but i have not learnt how to do this yet at my age my mind is not as active as it was years ago i no this is no excuse but i will learn .There are two things that i love doing that is my garden and the laptop you have to keep active in mind and body and i think these two things help also reading i believe if you sit back and moan about things it is not doing you any good.

Lou know what you mean and think I have figured out where one goes wrong other than turning the bloody computer on. We grew up learning to work out how things operated and in so doing we would question all aspects of it in case we had to repair it. Today they do not question how it works just that it does which is a total mind change for older people. As an example? Calculator. When we use a calculator we already have in our minds the answer we are looking for. Today if they press the wrong key and get the wrong answer they do not know and just accept the answer. Hence when shopping and the bill comes to a few cents over the dollar and you give them the few cents they are buggered unless they key in the total amount that you give them. It is not you getting old mate it is the young ones not having the brains to work out how to do it.

Yes Les i do agree in what you have said the younger generation seem to rely on the modern methods to solve some of their problems .In our days at sea if you did not learn quick you sure could be in trouble so you had to learn very fast
