    Default British Poplar...

    Welcome Aboard Taff.J.
Bet your time in the Merch was a real eye-opener compared with the 'regimented' way of life in the Queen's Grey Funnel Line!
I'd describe the discipline in the Merch as being mainly reliant on the individual's self-discipline(very necessary) compared with the 'written in stone',not paid to think' doctrine of the Services...wouldn't you say?
I think most seamen like yourself that I've talked with feel that their time in both services was equally fulfilling and enjoyable.
By the way,I'm sure you mean British Poplar, one of the 'Tree' class, rather than one sounding like a certain product from the Dagenham factory!

Pix of one, and a link to the other below.
    Enjoy the trip!
    Season's Greetings
