    Default Lambert Brothers

    [QUOTE=Graham ref post #1
    Hello Graham

    First no I don't remember you, as never sailed with Lamberts but my father did, Ivan Cloherty R96096, not on the same ships as you, but just recording a link for historical purposes

    My father sailed on

    Coulgorm 02.12.1948 to 22.09.1949 Bosun
    Coulgorm 05.10.1949 to 07.02.1950 3rd Mate
    Coulgorm 17.02.1950 to 25.12.1950 3rd Mate

    Went back to Bosun on next ship "Empire Frome" said he preferred the manual work and the mess deck, truth was think he missed the money he could earn as a bosun with three kids to keep. Stayed a bosun until forced retirement 1971 (heart attack), Pool doctor wouldn't let him go back to sea

    Served his time with Reardon Smiths.

    See you and I spent some time in the same company I was 2nd mate on the "Speciality" for a few months before going back deep sea. Those coasting vessels were a great learning curve for a navigator and I have the utmost respect for the men who served and do serve on the coasters, but rounding Lands End into a force 8 and 9 (and more) in a Yellow peril bound for Limerick wasn't exactly coasting, but a bloody hard slog

    Regards

    Ivan.

    Hello Ian.. Glad to hear from you.Everards was hard but what fantastic men crewed on the ships. My first one waqs the simultaneity,captain charlie wood from Lowestoft. I had a wonderful few months on board,on deck and even as cook. The food was not at all bad. I had £12.00p per week to feed all eight of us for three cooked meals a day,and well fed as well. Which proves how long ago that was. Wishing you and every one else that might read this a Very Merry Christmas and Happy and Healthy New Year. Cheers raham
