The Past
Mathew you will probably get similar but more advanced information from others on this site who will know where to look and advice you, living in different time zones will get round to it. Most probably he would not have worn a uniform as the MN is a civilian occupation, and if did was probably only on ship he wore. He would have had a discharge book with a number and if you have this will be more easily to trace, also a seamans Identity Card. As said others will likely be in touch to advice you. Thanks for the replies.
His name was John Norman Childs and he was born on 16-11-1926 in Hereford, England (forrest of dean)
His service number was 14891699 (hope it's ok to give that out)
And that is the ship i was told he served on. Unfortunately i was a little too young to ask questions about it last time i saw him and i rarely speak to other relatives in the UK and they don't like taking about it for some reason.
I can possibly find out the date of his enlistment as i have a some old papers here somewhere.
Thanks for your help
