Hello!
Hello all, i'm a new member, never sailed but am trying to trace some family history.
My grandmother and her four sisters were in the merchant navy during the WW11, i know they all served on the same ship at one point as my great grandmother wrote a letter asking if they could seperated! I know my grandmother served on the HMS Andes but not sure if she ever served on different ships.
Does anyone know anything about this ship or its journeys?
Are there any records of crew/passenger lists archived anywhere?
Thanks in advance
Pete

Re: Hello!
Hi Pete.
I think Vernon has it right R.M.S Andes, don't think that your Grandmother and sisters would have been in the Royal Navy, although there are some young Grandmothers around these days. Were they stewardesses ?

Re: Hello!
Hello again everyone, many thanks for your responses to my enquiry.
Yes, sorry i should have been more specific.
My grandmother and her sisters all served at some point on RMS Andes, completed in Belfast 1939 and almost immediatly requisitioned to the cause. I have read a bit about the ships journeys, of which there were many, which im sure is the case for all the merchant ships at the time.
Her name was Mary Brown nee O'brien and i believe all the sisters were still O'briens. Her date of birth was 27/08/1910 Birkenhead, Cheshire. All of them were stewardesses.
I have recently, last week, traced a first cousin through ancestry and associated sites and she has been able ti give me some good info.
It is her that also remebers the Empress ships being mentioned but shes not sure which ones so much help i know. I've started my search with the the Andes as this was one she seemed certain about.
Does anyone know if crew lists for the merchant ships exists anywhere?
Look forward to any thoughts, many thanks
Pete

Re: Hello!
The University in Newfoundland Canada holds a great deal of Crew Lists ,however you must look up the Ship to see if they have any on her!
Its not always the case if it comes up as not found that there are no records so after a search best to contact them and ask.
A Mrs Tanya MacDonald is the one to contact at the Email given
