    Default Hi from Ruth

Hi, i have just joined this (and another site) after finding a copy of my grandad's book as he was a Captain's Stewart for Captain John Pearce on the Waimarama.

I also have photos he took of HMS Neptune alongside Adolph Woermann taken on 25th Nov 1939 which he developed and printed in his cabin.

I've also got a picture of my grandad on the deck gun of Waimarama with two other people and I'm interested in knowing more about his time in the merchant navy which he loved so much!

He died a few years ago and I wished I asked more questions about his life in the merchant navy.

Ruth, if you have some names of ships your grandad served on after 1939 (any earlier doubt you will find many remaining with personal knowledge) post the names on here and you may find someone who remembers him or knows someone who sailed with him, we have after all over ten thousand members, a lot of us long in the tooth,(well those who still have them!) and we can remember what happened in the 1940' and 50's but we cannot remember what happened yesterday. Give his full name and place and date of birth, you never know what may turn up.

    Thanks for replying.
I've been reading my grandad's book which mentions lots of different ships he served on and will create a new post. With the fact he has deceased with the years he served I'm not expecting to find anyone who will remember him, but it would be lovely to maybe find people who also have beloved grandparents who served with him.

It's a classic example of I wish I knew more and unfortunately expected him to live forever and didn't prioritise on finding out.

Most of my time with him was playing chess!

    Ruth,

You can always put the names of the ships your grandfather sailed on and please enclose the photos he took, I'm sure they will be enjoyed by all the members of the site.

Don't have any regrets Ruth, looks like you spent a lot of happy times with him, never look back and wish 'if only' because it will not change anything. Just remember the good times of which no doubt there were many. The lads on here may be able to help you build up a picture of his seafaring life, we have some wonderful researchers on here, it may take some time, but tey will not give up.
