Hello Hugh,
No I do not have his service record,I am a novice on a computer compared to many others. I did not get a computer until I was 65. I am going to Liverpool Maritime Museum next Monday to try to get Dads Marconi exam results, I believe that is where they are held. The National Archives are very very confusing, I am awaiting an estimate for a few things that I hope I have chosen correctly.

Hello David,

Looking at the other thread you posted on, I see you can name all of his ships. I take it then you do have his Discharge Book which would name the ships. In the absence of a Discharge Book his CRS 10 Docket Book from BT 382/1933 would give more or less the same information. I will take a wild guess - is this him: R229291 WHITFIELD W 20/03/1922 PRESTON LANCASHIRE | The National Archives

Hello, It just goes to show that a bit more research goes a long way. I was wrong about the CRAGPOOL when her engines broke down and the watch given by HMS LONDONDERRY. The event took place in 1940 when on convoy OB 140. She was indeed going to S. America with a cargo of Welsh coal.

I also might add my grandfather Vincent Dwyer was a Newfoundlander, Newfoundland being a British dominion at the time he served for the British merchant navy And was buried in the Canadian war memorial in Buenos Aries Argentina
