Default Hi just joined and looking for info

    Hi there,

i've just joined the site and i'm looking for some help. I've got a copy of my dads ( michael springett) old merchant navy joining and leaving cards from the national archive and i'm trying to locate either the log or photos of the ship that he served on.

he joined in 1969 and my mum says he served on a tanker ship called the hermitrocious, i'm not to sure of the spelling. if anyone can offer any help to trace the info, if they knew him or if they have any photos i would be most grateful

    cheers

Starting in 1969 and sailing on a tanker called hermitrocious, this as you say could be a mis-spelling. Around that time the Blue Funnel line made an abortive attempt to enter the tanker market and the name you have smacks of a Blue Funnel name. I do recall they had at least one VLCC called the Tantalous so maybe a quick search of anything relating to Blue Funnel may point you in the required direction.

JA[/QUOTE####sailed in a h class shell tanker in 58 or 59 sts hemiplecta .....the were many h class shell tankers with odd sounding names .....but never sailed on the halitosis.....many were named strange names ...i believe they were named after shells from round the world ....as they had a shell encased in glass in the saloon and a reference were it came from ...regards cappy

    Stuart,

I sailed with Shell Tankers for a couple of years in 1960/1962 only on one H boat 'Haustrum'. All their Tankers were named after Shells as already stated but looking at the name Hermitrocious I thought this must be a wind up (The name) however I been looking for Shell Tankers to see if I could her, there are a lot of H Class Tankers also F Class Eagle Oil tankers which where bought out by Shell and Given H Class names.
I have found a Shell Tanker 'Hermitrochus' which was mentioned on the Following site. Ships Nostaglia then subsite Shell Tankers 1967 - 1975. I am sorry but I could not find any other information about her but I will keep looking.I hope this is of some help to you, best of luck in your search, I'm sure others on the site will be of further help.

    Stuart,
I've found her. She was an Eagle Oil Tanker built in Camell Lairds in 1959 named San Emiliano. The comapny was bought by Shell in 1959 and renamed HEMITROCHUS. She was scapped in 1977 at Kaohsuing. Am trying to find a phot of her for you.
