I have previously sailed as crew on the "Stavros S Niarchos", a brig - for 2 weeks through the north sea (and I got to the top!).

    This is the Stavros:

In my own work environment of late have dealt with youngsters: Only mentioning as the usual questions involve: What do you want to be in the future ? A five year old stated today, a Merchant Seaman. Stunned I had no answer, just, may all you want come true

    ONE PAST REPORT:

IT was an undeniably impressive sight as the magnificent Tall Ship Stavros S Niarchos sailed into Enterprise Quay, at The Waterfront, Barry. Several hundred people had gathered at the quayside to see the arrival of the Tall Ship at the start of this weekend's Waterfront Festival.

Hundreds more people were expected at The Waterfront today to take advantage of the open day aboard the Stavros S Niarchos. And tomorrow some people will be able to sail on her in the Bristol Channel.

Watching the ship's arrival from the quayside, 85-year-old former merchant seaman

William John could not conceal his admiration. ``It is very impressive,'' he said. ``As a seafarer I am interested in it and it hasn't disappointed.'' Michael Etheridge, who was visiting Barry from the Forest of Dean, said: ``It is lovely to look at. I have seen them in Bristol and this is as beautiful as those I have seen there.'' Sporting the Welsh flag, the vessel sailed gracefully into Enterprise Quay, its crew singing sailing songs.

The Stavros S Niarchos will not be the only attraction at The Waterfront Festival this weekend.

As said a past report, will update on anything newer. K

Please do. I have applied to a few different sponsors - turns out I am eligible to become an officer via some schemes but I just scrape the UCAS point requirement (120) so I may not be competitive enough on paper.
