Maggie Booth
A good friend of mine in years gone by about 1960 sailed with Maggie Booth on the Amazon run his name was Laurence (Larry) Dooris. He was an engineer. His father worked and he himself served his apprenticeship in the same place I did. He was a bit of a role model when I was a young man.

G'day all I was pantry boy on a SAM boat of Royal Mail called Barranca one of the places we went to was on the Amazon Estuary. My memory is hazy on the name of the place it was 1956, however I recall jungle on either side and the noises that came from the trees and undergrowth at night were scary.

Hi i was the R/O on Booth Ship MV Vamos She was 510 ton we sailed up the Amazon through to Iquitos in Peru. The trip took a few weeks It was very interesting to see how the pilot navigated through the various narrow waters . it was hot as hell and i had to wear a Sarong to keep cool. The Amazon has always remained my favourite place, many memories. regard bob

L & h
Hi Bob
I was R/O on Lassell, Devis and Roscoe in 1956/57. I loved L&H despite them not being too popular in some quarters.
cheers

Hi Tony, I was on the Lassell and the Devis in 1958, served my time with L&H, although no other company to compare with I found them to be OK. Glyn.

Viajero
Best year of my life at sea. 1967 on the MV Viajero as fourth and later third engineer (prior to that six months on MV Devis). I know this string is a bit old, but I would love to share notes and stories with anyone who spent time on the river.
