I mentioned in an earlier post there may be an entry in the official logbook for ATHELDUCHESS held at Kew in piece BT 381/2465. The file is best viewed by visit to Kew. It will be filed under the ship's official number 161088. A ship's official logbook as many parts so you need to copy the narrative.

    Default Thomas Baxendale:

As Hugh posted at LINK: http://www.merchant-navy.net/forum/n...s-gunners.html

"DEMS gunners records are held by the Ministry of Defence. The problem is it is not easy to find out which MN ships they sailed in. It is more difficult finding out about the MRA than the RN but there is always a way if persistent enough. With regard to the headline story you mention, the seaman may have his own service records or he may have had a list of ships from his P & V ledgers at the MoD".

Did take a look at: World War II memorials just in case, may help others, sorry nothing for Thomas:

Will keep searching, you never know ?

    Graham,

Hopefully you will get details from the official logbook but if you were able to look at the crew agreement it would also tell you his previous ship. If you need someone to do lookups for you at Kew on the crew lists/logbooks I can give you details of a a contact of mine who will not rip you off.

As with all servicemen the first thing you should do is to obtain his records of service from the Ministry of Defence. The cost will be £30 unless applied for by his spouse in which case they will be free. If you need advice on how to proceed via the MoD just make another post.

    Regards
    Hugh
