Looking for any history on Leslie Franciis Hyland
Hi,
I am trying to find out more of what my father's role was in WW2. He would never speak about his experience when he was alive. He died in 1983. I have his Certificate of Service, his official number is JX 392627. He commenced 28 Sept 1942 at Glendower, from then to 8 Jan 1943. Then he was posted to President III from 19 Jan 1943 to 8 March 1945. After that I cannot read well enough but it looks like Nile, maybe wrong. I know that these are shore based, but he did tell my mum he was in Malta, so did he serve onboard any ships? Any information or anyone that served with him would be great.
Thanks in advance
his daughter, Kay

Hello and welcome Kay,
HMS PRESIDENT III was the accounting base for amongst others, RN DEMS gunners so very possible that he served on merchant navy ships. Naval records will show the parent shore establishment only so I would advise you email the following and ask if they can supply a list of ships from his Pay & Victualling ledger records. Give full details including his official number.
