    Default Good morning

I'm researching my 3rd g grandfather Alexander Linton born Leith 1778 but living Plymouth by 1813. He was lost at sea 1844. I have copies of various records from the National Archives, and wondered if anyone could possibly translate the numbers for me? BT 112/42 , following his name reads, Leith 5476 Col. 775 21.11.43 SWIFT.

I'd be grateful for any assistance,

    thanks, Judith

    Default Alexander Linton:

    Hello Judith:

    RE: Alexander Linton:

Just found this, hopefully more help will come:

Lookin at Alexander Linton. Leith 5476 Col. 775 21.11.43 SWIFT

At a glance and only a guess look at:

From / of / born Leith

    5476: Possibly 2nd Mate Certificate

Col ? If this was Coc, could have been Certificate of Competence Col place of issue ?

775 ? Col Number ? Could be certificated at EG: Glasgow ? 775 something to do with waterway: geographical ?

    21.11.43 - Date 21 - 11 - 1843

    SWIFT - Present ship

21.11.43 date of certificate / joining ship ?

Food for thought will look further, hopefully others will help.

RE: His ship, The Three Sisters, sailing from Plymouth to Newport, sank on May 7th 1844, according to a notice in the Times. It appears the wreck was raised up to the wharf at Newport, May 16th. Do you have dates for his ship The Three Sisters, pos he was on the Swift before her ?

    AS SAID WILL LOOK FURTHER,

    K.
