70th Malta Convoy Tribute ebook: My naval highlight of 2012.
Hi
Reflecting on 2012, my naval highlight was the 70th Malta Convoy Tribute, in August, of the unveiling of a memorial in Valletta Harbour, Malta, in remembrance of the maltese people and the Malta Convoy crews, dead and alive, who brought vital aid to the starving maltese people. My late Grandfather, Thomas Smedley, (then 52) a merchant seaman, was on the Brisbane Star, one of the surviving ships, which survived the constant bombardment of german dive bombers and italian u boats below.
As a professional writer of WW1 & WW2 True War Stories, I have written my own tribute ebook, in memory of my Grandfather and another convoy veteran, Bob Sanders, and all merchant seamen involved in Operation Pedestal. If your interested in reading about my Grandfather's journey on the Malta Convoy, see 'Malta Convoy Heroes, Bravery, Death & Mutiny,' on Amazon Kindle. It's packed with photographs, maps and leading personalities of the day. I've received positive feedback about the book, so I hope it's a fitting tribute.
I'm writing another naval adventure, about my late father, John Richards (then 22), a merchant seaman involved in the Arctic Convoys. I discovered from his seaman books that he was involved in the 1943: Battle of North Cape, which climaxed in the sinking of the german battlecruiser, the Scharnhorst. It will be the 70th Anniversary of this famous battle in December, 2013.
I'm very proud of my father and grandfather, and the bravery they showed in WW2, and hope future generations will appreciate the freedom they fought for. So on that note, what was your naval highlight of 2012?

Malta Convoy Heroes, Bravery, Death & Mutiny:
Malta Convoy Heroes, Bravery, Death & Mutiny on the Brisbane Star. (Quick Download Military History Series:WW2 True War Stories.) [Kindle Edition]
WW2: August, 1942: Five ships from a convoy of fourteen, limped into Malta Harbour, a strategic naval base in the mediterranean, bringing vital supplies to the starving maltese population. The serving officers and seamen on board were hailed as heroes. They had endured heavy bombardment from german dive bombers from the sky and italian submarines from the sea. My grandfather, Thomas Smedley, was a serving seaman on the Brisbane Star and survived to tell the tale.
The Malta Convoy (Operation Pedestal) was a joint venture between Allied Forces. This ebook is packed with personal recollections from the crew, battle timeline, details of other ships, photographs and extracts from military reports at the time.
Malta: August, 1942: A handful of veterans gather on the Malta Harbour, to watch the maltese prime minister unveil a memorial for the 70th Anniversary of the Malta Convoy. It was a fitting tribute to the fighting spirit of the maltese people and the Malta Convoy service men.
Today, only 8 out of 100 surviving veterans are alive. This is the true story of the 'Malta Convoy Heroes.'
