Hi All
My Dad is 84 and my family and myself have been helping him write down his memories from his childhood and early years. He served in the Merchant Navy for 5 years from 1945 to 1950. My brother found this site and thought it might be of interest to my Dad as there's some photos of the ships he served on.
I'll put his details on one of the other forums just in case anyone recognises his name

Welcome
A warm welcome to our site Fiona. How pleasing it is to hear of a family taking the time and interest to help your father write about his life and memories. All to often we hear people saying that they left it too late and bitterly regretted it ever since, me included. It would be a great addition if your father can use this site as a way of enhancing those memories and perhaps reawakening memories he does not realise he still retains. I know many of us on here often suddenly remembers something new about our sea careers as the result of something someone else says. Anyway Fiona, I hope that you and your father enjoy your stay and if we can be of any help please just ask.

Hi Fiona.
Welcome to the site, I'm only three years behind your Dad so there are quite a few of us oldies left.
If he still has his discharge book, list his ships names and dates on site, over the years it has been surprising how many old mates have met up again through doing that on site.
Cheers Des.

Memoirs
Dear Ms. Fiona,
I am also 84 and was able to write my memoirs a few years ago. Being at sea at the same time as your father I found a lot of help from My Continuous Certificate of Discharge Book.
Does he have one and what did he do when he left the sea?
I wish you the best with your worthy task.
